I offer my deepest condolences to the family of Pope Francis, and those closest to him. The example of the humility that characterised his life will be his lasting legacy. On behalf of Sydney Anglicans I extend our profound sympathy to Archbishop Fisher and the Catholic community

My warmest congratulations to @PresidentIRL, @MichealMartinTD and all Irish people in Ireland and worldwide on St Patrick’s Day. We are deeply grateful to Ireland for its unwavering support to Ukraine, including the assistance provided to Ukrainians, who found refuge in Ireland, and for actively participating in the shared European efforts toward a just and lasting peace. Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona duit to all our Irish friends.

Right now, we have all heard from Russia Putin’s highly predictable and manipulative words in response to the idea of a ceasefire on the front lines—at this moment he is, in fact, preparing to reject it. Of course, Putin is afraid to tell President Trump directly that he wants to continue this war and keep killing Ukrainians. That’s why, in Moscow, they are surrounding the ceasefire idea with such preconditions that it either fails or gets dragged out for as long as possible. Putin does this often—he doesn’t say ‘no’ outright, but he drags things out and makes reasonable solutions impossible. We see this as yet another round of Russian manipulation. There was a U.S. proposal for an unconditional ceasefire—in the air, at sea, and on the front lines. We in Ukraine accepted this proposal. We have heard from the American side that there is readiness to organize monitoring and verification. And this is absolutely feasible—with American and European capabilities. And during the ceasefire, to prepare answers to all questions about long-term security and a real, lasting peace, and to put a plan to end the war on the table. Ukraine is ready to work as quickly and constructively as possible. We have discussed this with U.S. representatives, and our European partners, as well as all our allies worldwide, are aware of it. We are not setting conditions that complicate the process—Russia is. As we have always said, the only one stalling, the only one being unconstructive, is Russia. They need this war. Putin has stolen years of peace and continues this war day after day. Now is the time to increase pressure on him. Sanctions must be applied—ones that will work. We will continue working with our American and European partners and with everyone in the world who wants peace—to force Russia to end this war.

Just left Ukraine. What I saw proved to me we can’t give up on the Ukrainian people. Everyone wants this war to end, but any agreement has to protect Ukraine’s security and can’t be a giveaway to Putin. Let me tell you about my trip and why it’s important we stand with Ukraine.🧵

Today, all day long, work continued in the city of Dobropillya, the Donetsk region, following a Russian strike. It was one of the most brutal attacks, a combined strike carefully planned to cause maximum damage. Missiles, along with Shahed drones, targeted the central part of the city. Nine residential buildings, a shopping center, and stores were hit. Unfortunately, eleven people have died—my condolences to their families and loved ones. Among the victims was a State Emergency Service worker. The second strike came while rescuers were already working. Fifty people were injured, all have received the necessary assistance. Among the wounded are seven children, with the youngest being a 10-year-old girl. There were also other attacks today in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, and southern regions. In Kherson, FPV drones once again targeted civilians. Russia continues to prove with its cruelty, day after day, that nothing has changed for them in Moscow – they are not thinking about how to end the war, but how to destroy and capture more while the world allows them to continue. Of course, we are doing everything we can to protect lives. I am grateful to all the leaders, diplomats from partner countries, and civil society figures who support Ukraine, who condemned these Russian strikes, and who call things by their true names. It’s important that we continue to coordinate all our efforts with our partners, ensuring effective defense and doing everything possible to bring peace closer.

I was asked to post my Love Letter To America, that I read on today's podcast. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek so don't take offence. If you do take offence it kinda proves my point. Anyway, a 🧵...

I've just been in an intimate press conference with @ZelenskyyUa. Defiant and humourous, he said he "hadn't the right" to be depressed after the meeting with Trump. I asked about occupied territories and peace deal propositions. It will all be in Monday's 'Ukraine: The Latest'.
