After rent, utilities, car, gas, food, phone, and childcare, she’s still $567 short every single month — with nothing left for clothes, school lunches, medical, or emergencies. Katie Porter puts the numbers right in front of Jamie Dimon on a whiteboard and asks him how this woman is supposed to survive. He just keeps saying “I don’t know… I’d have to think about it.” Meanwhile, Jamie Dimon made $31.5 million that same year. Do you think any of this is better today? 🤔 I certainly don't.

Just over three months since The Eden opened its doors, we hit 60% leased 🤙 DTLA has lots of challenges - many real and some perceived. Within the Social District, it’s heavily weighted toward the latter (lots of credit to @lasocialdist). Now it’s time to flip that perception on its head. So many great things happening in this neighborhood: 🏥 CA Hospital just completed a major expansion, tripling the size of its maternity ward and ED (already 3rd busiest in LA County). 🏗️ Convention Center expansion is still a go, which will make it competitive with the largest in the country and drive more hotels and F&B in the area. 🥇 LA28 signed 160,000sf at South Park Center, where 4k employees will be based (not to mention the other nations delegations and sponsors that will follow). 🏬 Onni is completing the tallest residential tower in LA three blocks away. 🥷 The Social District’s Clean and Safe Ambassadors are always out cleaning, painting and providing support services to make sure the neighborhood remains the cleanest and safest district in the area. Our flooring guy is pushing laminate, saying it’s made a lot of progress in recent years. Which would you choose? Laminate (left): $1.79/sq. ft. SPC (right): $2.55/sq. ft. We’ve been using SPC for the past few years, but the laminate does seem better than it used to. Doesn’t have that old plastic look anymore.

More or less since we started Adaptive, we've had an informal rule that we would go far out of our way to help any employee buy a home. Like, we would broker the buyside for $0, call in favors w our vendors for inspections, review all the disclosures, etc. (Basically, act like we would for a family member.) But buying a home in LA, particularly if you don't have family money, is really difficult, so no one had ever taken us up on it... until now. Proud to say we closed the first one today. Is it weird that I feel better about helping this deal than almost all of the investment deals I've ever done?
