No more greenfields coal mines is good - but it's really a Claytons move, since none has been approved in recent years anyway. Everything is happening via extensions/"modifications" - and some of these are HUGE. Effectively BAU. theguardian.com/australia-news…

Hey Australians If the Albanese Government hadn't been letting the gas industry rip us off since 2022, we could have had: 💰Free TAFE and university, or 💰Free universal childcare, or 💰$2,500 each Bummer! australiainstitute.org.au/report/we-have…

This piece from @GrogsGamut is a clear articulation of how our gas policy is failing 🇦🇺 As global conflict pushes energy prices higher, Australians are paying more while gas export revenues surge and returns to 🇦🇺 lag. That outcome is a result of poor design. A 25% tax on gas export revenue would fix that. It seems everyone wants this except the gas companies and major party politicians. theguardian.com/business/grogo…

AustralianSuper – the biggest shareholder in Whitehaven Coal, owning nearly $1 billion in shares – doesn't seem too keen on accepting this gift... 🤔 If you don't want new coal @AustralianSuper: make sure you tell Whitehaven!

So we crack the 100 mark for air quality alerts in the Upper Hunter in fact we are at 101 alerts this year thanks to two more for Bulga and Jerry’s Plains. Not a good figure for anyone living in the region .

Successive governments haven't valued nature and have made short term decisions at the expense of the health of the land that sustains us. Unless we elect people who want to start making decisions like we love this continent and plan to live here for a long time, we'll keep getting the same results. smh.com.au/national/envir…

Queensland is one of the biggest producers of gas in the 🌏. This map shows some of the thousands of gas wells drilled in forests and on farmland across regional Qld. And yet we no longer have urea fertiliser being manufactured in Brisbane because they could not secure an affordable gas supply. 🇦🇺 farmers are now beholden to imported urea and all the supply chain risks that come with that, with our national food security ultimately at stake. Farmers are expected to "host" the gas industry whether they like it or not, have their groundwater💦 diminished 🚱 and now can't source much needed fertiliser to grow their crops🌾 Aren't we just the lucky country to have such political wisdom in charge of making decisions that stand to impact multiple generations.
