@reformussoccer MLS has employed more American players than any soccer league in history. Competition rules have a fixed # of int'l slots. B/c federal law law that prohibits discrimination in employment, both US citizens and permanent residents are considered domestic for roster purposes.

You shouldn’t have to pay $500M to join a league, and you shouldn’t be able to pay off the competition to violate competition rules that hurt American player opportunities.

For reference: Here's the view from a webcam the Field Museum, across the street from Soldier Field where #cf97 are set to play #VWFC Air quality (AQI) in Chicago is 253 according to AirNow.gov, correlates to "very unhealthy."

At 1PM CT, AQI is up to 395. Spoke to an ER doc ‒ biggest issue likely to be player health. Fans would be affected but unlikely to immediate medical attention at SF as long as most-at risk wouldn't attend. Says health issues come up in days AFTER exposure starts.

Update: As of 10:30AM, Chicago Fire-Vancouver Whitecaps match "still as scheduled" now despite wildfire smoke US Soccer Federation's guidelines say to use AirNow.gov & cancel/postpone matches if AQI is > 200. AQI is 256 in Chicago right now per AirNow #cf97 #VWFC

@loubbanks Agreed. Some situations - tornadoes, certain floods, unplanned street closures etc - can't be known in advance, others like this, we've got a very good idea of what air quality will be at scheduled kickoff.

@sing_electric Read that the game can be postponed/canceled up until 1 hour before kickoff - not great for me as I wanted to get there early with my boys

@AveDeFuego29 I haven't heard anything but am asking. Game can be postponed by league in coordination with match medical officials. USSF's guidelines ‒ not binding requirement ‒ say that games should be canceled/postponed if AQI is over 200.
