@MrDanielBuck Controversial because some stupid political figure came up with No Child Left Behind. I can understand we do t want 13 year old third graders, but something has to change. Bring back truancy court for chronic absenteeism.

If a student doesn’t show up for 60 percent of the year, if they cannot read or do math, if they turn in zero assignments and fail every test, they should not advance to the next grade In fact, socially promoting them would do them a disservice. Why is this controversial?

I know teachers who went through the motions and got pointless graduate degrees just for the pay raise. Most will tell you that those degrees didn’t make them better teachers but it was the only way to make more money. There needs to be another (better) way.
