Just two years after his famous 1996 speech, Rajini backed the DMK-TMC alliance in the 1998 LS polls. They flopped miserably, winning just 9/39 seats.
In 2001, Jayalalithaa had the strongest alliance with Congress, TMC (Moopanar), PMK, & the Left, and she swept the state. Even Karunanidhi could not stop her. It is easy to say "I would have won" now, but staying out was his best decision!
If you are truly happy for your junior, you celebrate his win - you don't boast about what you could have done 25 years ago. While he backed out of politics again in 2020 fearing a loss, Vijay took the risk and won against all odds. The regret is clearly showing.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested five accused persons and conducted searches at several locations across the country in connection with the alleged irregularities and paper leak related to the NEET UG-2026 examination. CBI had registered a case on 12 May 2026 on the basis of a written complaint received from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, regarding alleged irregularities and paper leak in the conduct of the NEET UG-2026 examination. The FIR was registered for offences including criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. So far, the CBI has arrested five accused persons in the case — three from Jaipur, one from Gurugram and one from Nashik. Several other suspects are currently being examined.
