why should anyone care to advance sportsbetting and other forms of vice technology designed to recycle ubi dollars from western democracies? prediction markets are a cool concept but can someone remind me why anyone cares if odds on sports games get better price discovery?

Crypto is going to find out the hard way that it's horribly behind when it comes to risk modeling (I'm a former credit quant...the field is behind what the state of the art was 20 years ago). It'll learn one blow-up at a time. Want to make a fortune in defi? Create a dashboard that shows DV01 (to offchain rate moves), JTD (pivoted by underlying asset), correlation delta (for correlation across assets)...and for fuck's sake, time to have a tradable credit spread for vault curators and asset issuers (to both model counterparty risk and hedge against it). We're in caveman-land right now. Crypto's general tendency to YOLO everything just isn't good enough anymore.

7:00p update: a member of the production staff tells me the TVs will not be on tonight, at all. The staff will work overnight to get the power back and TVs programmed, I’m told. None of the 80+ TVs are working.

one of the biggest achievements of DeFi was to make providing exchange liquidity accessible to small pools of capital. more LPs and market makers lead to more competition. more competition means deeper liquidity and better prices. exchanges need to be maximizing MM competition.

the second hardest challenge for a perps exchange is to attract organic maker/taker liquidity. hardest is to scale the risk engine, but most don't get that far

24/7 is too much we should go back to what god intended - a single clearing auction under the tree at lunch

three steps happen at the exchange level: - order submission - auction - execution/fills order placement and cancels are prioritized in the first step: they're guaranteed to be processed before the auction kicks off and orders are filled. there's no need for an additional market "speed bump" in this design, since cancel prioritization is already built into the batch process! then within the batch, there's a single auction for all resting and new orders: all transactions occur at the same uniform price. importantly, there's no incentive to be first or last in a given block since everyone gets filled at the same price (often improved)

@situationist interesting notion, so within a batch you have many transactions how does the order of execution happen then?

24/7 trading is great but if you switch timezones you can actually trade 27/7 or 32/7 during peak market conditions
