Even after Second Vatican Council, the memory of the old Pre-Vatican II Syro-Malabar rite in the Major Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly was preserved for many years by the late Rev. Fr. Sebastian Sankoorikal, a priest deeply devoted to our traditional liturgical heritage.
I do not know if anyone may even remember this ancient form of the Syro-Malabar liturgy today, yet it possessed a beauty and solemnity that was truly one of a kind.
During the Feast of St. George at Edapally Church, it was customary to celebrate the old Syro-Malabar rite Holy Qurbana with the Chasuble and Biretta.
This clip captures the Agnus Dei, where the celebrant strikes his breast three times as the choir chants the Syriac “Emare d’Alaha” - “Lamb of God.” A beautiful reminder of the unique liturgical soul once preserved in Ernakulam-Angamaly.
Pray for the Catholic Syro-Malabar Church and for the memory of her saints, fathers, and priests who preserved this unique sacred heritage through the generations.

@LizaRosen0000 What the Indians don't always talk about is what these people did to them in the late medieval period, when they poured in from the Afghan area and established sultanates reaching far down into the Deccan plateau. My own people made our first alliances with Portugal to get free.
