I used to do a digital detox on weekends. Every Friday night, I would switch off my iPhone for 2 days and move to my Nokia flip phone. And honestly, the results surprised me. Pros: ✅ Zero distractions. I suddenly had so much free time that I started reading books, playing with my daughter and spending quality time with family. ✅ I was actually present in the moment. Whether it was a meal, a drive or a conversation, I wasn’t reaching for my phone every few minutes. ✅ Less anxiety. I can’t explain it scientifically, but my mind felt calmer. ✅ Better conversations. Since I wasn’t carrying my smartphone, I would insist that friends and family also keep their phones away when we were together. ✅ Wife and daughter were definitely happier 😄 Cons: ❌ Contacts. Transferring contacts to the dumb phone was a nightmare and many never got transferred properly. ❌ No apps. No Zomato, Swiggy, EazyDiner, Google Maps etc. Got stuck a few times while driving and had to depend on my wife’s phone. ❌ As a ccgeek, not having access to my cards, offers and apps while paying hotel bills felt painful 😭 ❌ Separate charger. No Type-C support, so carrying another charger became annoying. ❌ My primary number is on eSIM in the iPhone. So I had to use my secondary number and ended up missing important calls and OTPs. One more thing I noticed: By Sunday evening, I didn’t miss Instagram, Twitter or WhatsApp at all. But the moment I switched my iPhone back on, I would get sucked back into the cycle. Have you ever tried a digital detox? How was your experience?
