@user84829272 As someone who went to public hs in Florida, and had friends in private-schools, private-schools aren’t any better. If your kid is in the AP or IB programs, they’ll be sequestered away from gen pop and solely around high-achievers.

@Empty_America America revolves on displays of wealth. Our obsession with capital is why our economy outpaces the world, but that’s separate from status-signals.

The American class system is real and so complex/contradictory as to defy easy description.
But in a sense it doesn't matter at all, you either have the money or you don't.
And guys who actually have the money often just laugh at efforts to class-mogg them.

I am not first to say it but the American class system is far more complex than the British (though more forgiving) because it is not necessarily hierarchical along a single axis but can be hierarchical along multiple axes and is the place America leans most into guess culture.

A kid who scores 800 Verbal and 600 Math will often seem much smarter than a kid with 600V and 800M.
And is far more likely to become influential in society.
But on some other level we are suspicious of this type of intelligence, don't see it as quite the same as math.

Oakland has a population of 450,000 people. It is blessed with geographic conditions existing almost nowhere else that allow year-round temperatures in the low 70s. It is also, notoriously, a crime ridden hellhole. 90 percent of the crime is committed by about 1200 recidivists. Oakland could make crime vanish by making these people vanish. Into a prison or whatever. Instead, Oakland elects progressive mayors and prosecutors who keep these people on the streets, keep encampments in the parks, provide no remedy for rampant property crime and disorder and keep spending hundreds of thousands of public dollars in social services and criminal justice expenditures every year for each of these individuals who are nothing but detrimental and will never be anything else.

About 2600 pilots (according to ALPA) just got dumped into an already suuuuper saturated and depressing hiring market. I’m not sure how the airlines will absorb Spirits customers, planes and pilots, but in the short term it’s gonna be ruff

I used to be against condos but I now believe something that sounds odd, but I'm pretty sure is true: The average person cannot maintain the average house.
