It is great to hear today from Justice Brown (Supreme Court of Canada) and Chief Electoral Commissioner that the #ForeverCanadian petition is not calling for a referendum, but a vote at Legislature. Also, glad Elections Alberta re-confirmed that all signatures were valid. #ableg

I find this framing frustrating because it pretends the only responses coming from people opposed to separation are emotional attachment to Canada or name-calling. There are actually many substantive arguments being made about why Alberta independence is likely a very high-risk proposition economically, legally, constitutionally, and geopolitically. Two things can be true simultaneously. Alberta can have legitimate grievances within Confederation, including concerns around energy policy, equalization, federal overreach, regulatory dysfunction, and deteriorating federal-provincial relations. Separation itself can still be a very bad idea that leaves the average Albertan materially worse off than maintaining the status quo. What I also find strange is the way the burden of proof keeps getting inverted in these discussions. The people proposing to dismantle Confederation are talking about triggering constitutional negotiations, creating years of political and economic uncertainty, renegotiating trade and regulatory systems, dividing federal assets and liabilities, resolving Indigenous treaty conflicts, and potentially destabilizing capital flows. Yet somehow the burden is framed as resting on everyone else to justify remaining within the existing system. The existence of legitimate grievances is not really the central question because most Albertans already acknowledge that at least some of those grievances are real. The actual question is whether the average Albertan would realistically be better off after all of the economic, legal, constitutional, financial, and geopolitical consequences of separation are accounted for. I still have not seen a serious separatist argument that demonstrates that convincingly. I have yet to see a detailed separatist argument that seriously addresses currency stability, banking regulation, debt allocation, securities oversight, interprovincial trade, pension obligations, Indigenous legal challenges, investment risk, or long-term market access. Most eventually drift back toward broad assertions that Alberta is wealthy, resource-rich, and will therefore naturally succeed if it simply removes Ottawa from the equation.

I understand that some people have deep emotional ties to Canada, but logically Alberta has been taken advantage of for decades. Albertans have various justified concerns about how we are treated. If you are going to work for the NO side on independence, at least present a valid plan for resolving these issues. Mostly the NO side has just stuck to calling us names. If you care about Canada, do better for Canada. I don’t feel Canada can be fixed and will be voting for Alberta Independence. Prove me wrong.

Non-straight ppl are treated with a double standard. Sam Allberry is no different. When Steve Lawson or Phillip Yancey et al have affairs we don’t assume their theology was wrong or their marriage status caused their infidelity. Yet Sam had whatever an “inappropriate relationship” is and suddenly ppl pounce on his theology and singleness as the root of the problem. Double standard.

@TexasSpiderpig @MichelleDLesley Yes. I know. I am celibate. I am single. See? We are now litigating my status. What defines or doesn’t define me. You don’t know me at all and are making assumptions and judgments. So thank you and God bless you but this will be the end of any replies from me.

Stephen, I say this to you because I *biblically* love you: Someone has lied to you. There is no such thing as an "LGBTQ+ Christian" any more than there's such a thing as a "liar Christian" or an "adulterous Christian" or a "robber Christian". No one gets to carry his sin with him past the cross. Sin dies at the cross. In order to become a Christian, you must repent of your sin (all of it, not just sexual immorality), forsake it, ask God to forgive you for it, and believe the *biblical* gospel. Place your faith in the fact that Jesus died, was buried, and physically rose again to pay the penalty for your sins - an eternity in Hell - so you wouldn't have to pay that penalty yourself. *I* see you as human. You're a human who needs the real Jesus of Scripture (not the one you've been lied to about) just like me. I hope you'll prayerfully and carefully consider the Scriptures and materials here so that you might be born again: michellelesley.com/what-must-i-do…

I see stuff like this and thank God that He let me see what I know now and have what I have now, cuz LGBTQ+ Christians have to fight through so much just to be seen as humans in the church. Those struggling with SSA will see stuff like this and think, “Why bother?”

@TexasSpiderpig @MichelleDLesley Yes but this implies that I haven’t done so and that something is wrong with my faith or my life in some way. Again. You do not know me or my history or my life or my faith. This is something I have wrestled with for decades. I am at peace with myself and with God.

@skshim @MichelleDLesley To be fair, she isn't asking you to litigate your life with her. She's urging you to go to God about your life, and listen to what He has said in His clearly written word.

Every single Canadian should watch this video. CBC has uncovered YouTubers who are being paid to promote Alberta separatism. I am angry 😡 Exposing 'faceless' YouTubers pushing Canada to join the U.S. | CBC.ca share.google/5wn7zdestnMIup…

Fixed it for you: The r*pe culture purity framework tells predators that their desires are not sinful. And a predator who believes that his desire is not sinful has no desire to fight it. He makes it his identity... Literally "every man's battle."

But to those of you condemning him or otherwise joyous in your vitriol, think of how this will affect the faith of those with such struggles, and what you can do instead to encourage them in their faith instead of giving them more reason to walk away.

But this is what people like me face. I’m just so grateful that I personally have never been in a situation even close to this and that I’ve been supported in my faith throughout my life even if people didn’t know what to do with my sexuality, even when it was so obvious.

It is heartbreaking what sin - and the toleration of even a little bit of it - does to people. You can't just tie sin up with what you think are strong ropes. You have to kill it. This was only a matter of time.

Some of the worst people on Twitter are trying to use the news about Sam Allberry for their hateful agenda. They want to make it even more difficult for SSA folks to serve in ministry, even for those who are pursuing lives of chastity, fighting lust, etc.
