@TYT84464919 @ASRockInfo Actually just 4 x8 Chips, hence 32 bit total. They literally left a normal UDIMM half unpopulated with DRAM ICs

🚀 ASRock Drives DDR5 Innovation with Self-Developed HUDIMM Technology ASRock introduces its self-developed One Sub-Channel (1×32-bit) DDR5 HUDIMM design, now supported on Intel 600 / 700 / 800 series motherboards. Unlike standard DDR5 (2×32-bit), ASRock’s HUDIMM architecture reduces chip count and cost, enabling more affordable and flexible system builds for users and system integrators worldwide. This patent-pending innovation, developed by ASRock and brought to market in collaboration with Intel and TEAMGROUP, also unlocks new possibilities for optimized memory configurations with improved performance and lower latency. Support extends beyond motherboards to DeskMini systems (HSODIMM DDR5), delivering a complete ecosystem for next-generation memory solutions. 🔗 Learn more: asrock.com/news/index.asp… #ASRock #Motherboard #DDR5 #HUDIMM #TechInnovation @intel @teamgroupinc

@jakkuh_t @osenya31 @TrueNAS @iXsystems They also removed email notifications for "unscheduled reboot" event. Literally the only time I want my NAS to nudge me, except drive failures, is when the system had a power outage / hard reset.

Why would you take a perfectly functional feature that hasn’t changed in years, presumably requires very little maintenance work, and remove it in place of an unofficial community app??? extra work for users, supply chain security, multiple places to have to configure notifs, it’s just messy.

just found out that they removed the controls for scheduling SMART disk health tests from @TrueNAS… What in the actual fuck? It’s a storage operating system. Scheduled SMART tests are like storage 101 best practice. Do better @iXsystems

A new contender in high-end, OC-focused memory kits has entered the market: Origin Code 6400 cl24 or 8200 cl32? peak @SKhynix 16 Gbit A-Die selection makes it happen. And the cooler design is focused on cooling, neat trick! igorslab.de/ic88

Someone imported DDR5 RAM from China to Germany, and even after hefty customs fees, it still ended up about 50% cheaper than in-store prices. According to the customer, it’s “the nicest and highest-quality RAM they’ve ever held.”

asus now recommends that users update their am5 mobo bios. i am not sure which one you should choose: - the bios on the product page - the bios on the ocn thread / rog forum for exmaple, on the product page, the latest (official) bios for c10h (x870e hero) is 1805 (agesa1270). there is a newer (beta) bios available on the rog forum, which is 2003 (agesa pre1300). on the other hand, asus also stated "*beta/test BIOS use at own risks". rog forum #M11344" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">rog-forum.asus.com/t5/amd-600-ser… asus statement press.asus.com/news/statement…

@IanCutress At this point which is bigger: AI memory demand bubble, perceived demand bubble or actual non-AI memory demand? Makes you wonder, when supply can finally match demand, will demand actually be matched by supply? 🤯

The Great💾 Debate: My Thoughts from CES An interesting avenue from my discussions about memory and storage at CES came to light. Simply put, there's no significant upswing in literal demand for memory that wasn't already predicted. So why are prices going through the roof, if literal demand hasn't changed? The perceived customer numbers are increasing. Normally you'd have the memory vendor either (a) make its own modules, (b) sell silicon to module manufacturers who make the modules, or (c) sell to distributors to sell to module manufacturers who then sell back to distributors, to distribute. Imagine some arrows going from manufacturer to big pools of module vendors going to customers. But due to FOMO, no-one wants to hold onto memory for long. So distributors are getting twitchy, leaving those that need memory to go direct to the source. As a result, more people are going direct. The bigger the company, the more they want to control their own supply chain as well. So just like in the pandemic timeline, an end customer: ➡️ needs five batches of memory, ➡️ so they bid on ten ➡️ hoping to get one. As a result, we're seeing more percieved demand for memory, simply because more companies are bidding on it, bypassing the traditional supply chain and exchanging disti/module manu markups for a bidding war. The more people hear of 'shortages/increased demand', the more FOMO kicks in and they go bid on memory as well. Sure, overall demand is increasing, but we can model that, and people have done. But the increased *percieved demand* is causing everyone to bid or lock in supply earlier than ever before, for longer than people ever expected. As a result, systems are that typically sold with memory (eg GPUs with GDDR) are now being sold separately, with end customers being told to 'get your own source', multiplying the number bids on memory even further. That being said, I had one conversation about the Asian mini-PC market. This is dominated by mid-range mobile CPUs in custom form factors. These ODMs are now demanding that AMD/Intel sell their mobile chips with DRAM as a package, as the DRAM becomes the most expensive part. These smaller players can't play/come to bid on the memory lots. So when the CPU is cheap, the memory is expensive, they're demanding bundling in order to get a matched set. From last month to this month, the total volume of memory being manufactured hasn't changed that drastically. The binning of that memory (enterprise vs consumer) hasn't changed either. Both of those are slow to adjust. But when you've got a queue of 100 small players outside your door rather than two or three big ones, then budgets get ripped open and the same memory is bought for multiples it used to. What might end up happening initially is the dearth of tier-3 and tier-4 vendors and OEMs whose margins were thin to begin with. The industry is slow to react with new memory sources, and even why YMTC is being discussed heavily by OEMs with a strong China presence. Until distribution normalizes or new supply genuinely comes online, the new perceived demand is mattering more and more. Images: @ADATATechnology at CES was showing off some 64 GB UDIMMs. No pricing, various internal organs accepted.

What's better than finding a $100 bill in your coat pocket? 512GB of RAM in a desk drawer! We upgraded our Storinator to 1TB this year, before prices went crazy, and this is the old "take out" RAM I'd set aside...
