A police sergeant in New York City was sentenced to 3 to 9 years in prison for killing a man on a motorized scooter by tossing a picnic cooler full of drinks at him. Erik Duran, 38, is the first NYPD cop sentenced to prison for an on-duty death in at least 2 decades. The president of his police union said "Today will be forever remembered as one of the darkest days in the history of our profession." Over 11,000 police officers signed a petition for Duran to be sentenced to probation with no jail time. Eric Duprey, 30, was a father of 3 and a delivery driver. He was suspected of a drug crime at the time he was being chased by police, but his family denies the allegations. People close to Duprey describe him as a "loving partner" and "the best father in the world."
