@shagbark_hick It did disappear overnight: Hurricane Katrina disappeared it. Didn’t turn into Disneyland - just clean and safe, if but for moment. But to each his own.

@smcox71 I suspect the crime (or at least the reputation of crime) is a lot of why NOLA is the way it is. If it vanished overnight, along with the corruption, they'd turn it into another strip mall Disneyland like everywhere else in America. And God knows they're trying anyway

I find it interesting that when real long-term "traveler" types finally stop moving, they tend to settle in fairly specific areas. Very few "go home" to Toledo or whatever. Tons of them wind up in Tucson, and I understand why. New Orleans too.
