Louder for the folks in the back! Lets be so real the only reason we have in person conferences is bc: 1. People need to present sonewhere to maintain an air of productivity for their institution 2. Orgs want fees 3. Few people are creative enough to devp GOOD online options
Matt Dowell@dowellml

I know academic Twitter is not a thing, so I just put this out into the abyss: That participation in academic disciplines and professional organizations in 2026 still revolves around attendance at the on-site national conference is entirely bullshit.

Yea yea yea “limited capacity” this and “boundaries” that… TENURED faculty out here telling students to self-care their way out of institutional issues instead of stepping up to mediate/guide/tangibly support. Making the rest of us look soft and foolish.

Someone on Tiktok said professors don’t care about students, and the sooner students realize that, the better. It made me sad, but then again I’m seeing all these tenured faculty legitimately refuse to use an ounce of their status/resources to help students

Huge news for academic freedom in Texas. State leaders have tried since 1917 to fire professors at public universities who have views they disagree with. There’s no law in Texas that says a professor can’t teach LGBTQ or “DEI related” material, even with SB 17 and SB 37. #txed
Jessica Priest@jessica_priest

After Gov. Greg Abbott weighed in, Texas A&M Pres. Mark Welsh said he directed the provost to fire the professor heard in the viral classroom recording. Check @TexasTribune for the latest fallout: texastribune.org/2025/09/08/tex…

@aliciaandrz Raised by teen parents who valued and modeled honesty & respect. Put us kids first, protected us, always shared their rationale for their decisions with us. Not perfect, but they truly strive to do/be better, and that effort has been key in maintaining our strong relationship

Loughborough University
Loughborough University@lborouniversity·
Last week, Loughborough doctoral researcher Rhianna Garrett, published an image on X to celebrate the submission of her PhD thesis. The post attracted millions of online engagements, and many positive and supportive messages about her work. Some of the comments however were racist and misogynistic attacks towards Rhianna’s mixed ethnic identity. We wholeheartedly condemn the racist and misogynistic abuse targeted at Rhianna, defend the legitimacy of the academic inquiry, and unequivocally support the academic freedom of our researchers to publish their work, free from abuse.
