Anderson and Mainoo cannot be it. I like both players, but that midfield pairing does not compete at EPL or UCL level. The profile balance is wrong. Neither player is a true tempo controller or defensive anchor. There is no consistent ball-winner. No one screens the back line properly. Who is winning duels? Who is stopping transitions? Right now, no one. Mainoo can dictate tempo in phases, but he does not control game speed. He can slow it down, but he cannot raise the intensity when needed. Anderson brings energy and box-to-box movement, but who holds position? Who protects the space in front of the defence? That role is missing. That imbalance kills the midfield structure. Either you separate them, or you fix the profile. You need a player like Tonali, Stiller, or Guimarães. A controller. A presence. Someone who anchors, wins duels, and sets the rhythm. As it stands, Mainoo and Anderson together is not sustainable. Even Japan finessed a win thru them.
