@DrBaadiyow Thank you, this is a concern of mine for over 15 years. Worse are the local flights, imagine a mom or dad who never flew and heading to Mogadishu getting Saftey instructions in English. This should not be difficult.

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority should make it mandatory for all airlines operating flights to Somalia to provide announcements in the Somali language. This is important not only to ensure passengers are properly informed for safety and security purposes, but also to uphold the country’s sovereignty and protect its cultural identity. During my recent flight from Nairobi to Mogadishu, I observed that announcements were made only in English. I raised this concern with the pilots and flight attendants, encouraging them to communicate with passengers in their native language. Therefore, the Somali authorities should issue clear regulatory guidelines requiring the use of Somali in all onboard announcements.

What the Artemis II astronauts did over the last 10 days was a testament to their bravery. And the fact that they traveled farther from Earth than anyone ever has, re-entered our atmosphere at more than 24,000 mph, and splashed down safely was a testament to human ingenuity. Thanks to everyone at @NASA for making this mission possible, and for taking us along for the ride.

US Independent of Iran Oil: America has plenty of oil & doesn’t need the Strait of Hormuz, we’re told. Yet gas prices keep rising. We’re also not doing regime change anymore, but every country America fights ends up with new leaders. Expensive comedy show. #IranWar#IranDefiance

Innaa Lillaahi Wa Innaa Ilayhi Raajicuun. Today Somalia lost a scholar, South West lost a defender, and Af-Maay lost one of its strongest voices. Prof. Ali Jimale Ahmed stood for language, history, and dignity. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaws.

The timing makes this even more concerning. As diplomats meet in Villa Somalia to discuss de-escalation, fighting begins outside Baidoa. This is a dangerous escalation that risks damaging both civilian safety and the federal political order.
Nuradin Aden Dirie@NuradinDirie

Villa Somalia has crossed the line from political coercion to kinetic violence in Baidoa. Deploying federal forces against South West State is a direct assault on the federal architecture and endangers half a million IDPs. I urge @aussom_ to immediately execute its mandate under UNSC 2767 and AU PSC directives. Protect civilians. Halt the administrative coup.

As diplomats enter Villa Somalia to discuss de-escalation in Southwest State, reports emerge of federal forces attacking Koonfur Galbeed forces outside Baidoa. A dangerous escalation where, in the end, no one wins.

This morning we are expecting to see mass displacements in #Baidoa and surroundings areas. Already there exist evidence of up to 70k people looking shelter elsewhere of their homes. There are also 700k who have no option to move. Humanitarian disaster looming. @UKinSomalia

This is bigger than Baidoa or any one leader. The real issue is whether Somalia is governed by federalism and political agreements, or by force when disagreements arise. Political disputes must be resolved politically, not militarily.
Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed@Laftagareen

Any attack on Baidoa or South West State territory will be met with an appropriately severe military response. I urge president Hassan Sheikh to use the remainder of his short time in office to not spill Somali blood but help find a solution for a credible election process.

If it was this easy, millions wouldn’t still be paying transport extortion to Al-Shabaab, and the region wouldn’t still be under their control. Force and politics mixed together rarely bring stability. They usually bring new conflicts.

.@HagiAwesAhmed, Please enlighten us: How did @SNAForce get from Mogadishu to Burhakaba, a distance of 185 Kms most of it under Al-Shabab control & if fighting Al-Shabab is a priority for @HassanSMohamud, why not clear this vital road before political dispute with @Laftagareen?

🇸🇴 Baydhabo Must Not See Bloodshed —————————🇸🇴——————— I just want to understand this: if @Laftagareen, who runs Southwest State of Somalia and is at loggerheads with the President of the Federal Government of Somalia, @HassanSMohamud, has his regional troops assembled outside Baydhabo to protect the city from the deployed Somali National Army—now inching toward the city—or if these Southwest troops attempt to prevent the national army’s entry into the city (it does not matter whether you think Laftagareen is the good guy or the bad guy, or whether the FGS or HSM is the aggressor or the wronged party)—then what I want everyone to ask and think about is this: would the Somali National Army fire at state security personnel, or would they use drones to decimate them, given that drones have reportedly been deployed there and are effective at doing these kinds of things? President @HassanSMohamud, who is the Commander-in-Chief and is responsible for what the army does—and will be accountable if it is misused—should not, under any circumstances, use the NATIONAL army to overpower non-cooperating Southwest leaders, even if Laftagareen is in the wrong. We must also remember that most FMS states were forcibly or gerrymanderingly installed by previous governments — or by themselves — and that Laftagareen himself was allowed by His Excellency to run Southwest for three years without elections or any credible process. In 2023 and 2024, the president himself convinced Southwest politicians, backed by clan militias, that arms should not be taken up against Laftagareen and/or other FMS leaders operating without mandates, because it was neither in the national nor local interest. That rationale still stands today — notwithstanding, and despite, Laftagareen effectively coronating himself a few days ago — because our primary responsibility as Somalis is to strengthen social cohesion and bring the people and the country together. We also all know that, in this very month—just over 20 days ago — President Hassan Sheikh and the Speaker of Parliament extended their terms in a controversial manner. That is not excusable, but it too should not warrant revolt or the use of guns. Name-only term extensions — and particularly nominal ones (such as FMS administrations confined to city-states and surrounded by Al-Shabaab) — do not warrant bloodshed. In the current context of Somalia (mandates ending, external meddling, and humanitarian crises), priorities should be peace, unity, and stability — not brinkmanship. The Somali National Army and Southwest security forces deployed on Southwest frontlines should therefore not attack or use force against each other while Al-Shabaab is literally operating in their midst. Neither group should place itself in positions that could trigger confrontation. The NATIONAL ARMY and provincial security forces must remember that they are tasked and required to fight only Al-Shabaab, Daesh, and external enemies—and not among themselves, or in service of politicians seeking to overpower one another. Remember: Siyad Barre’s military government used force against the Isaaq in the north, and we are still struggling to overcome the consequences of that ill-advised abuse of power — “I was following orders” is not an excuse. Somalia’s international partners should plainly tell President @HassanSMohamud — on whom, as national leader, the responsibility of acting as the adult in the room falls — not to use force to capture Baydhabo or attempt to dislodge Laftagareen. That does not mean we approve of self-anointing — but using violence, when hundreds of thousands of people —including tens of thousands in Southwest — do not even have water to drink and are on the verge of famine, has no justification. The contentions between the various parties in Southwest (such as national vs. provincial politicians, or among clans) are purely political, and they do not have a military solution.

SW state is on its knees from drought and Al Shabab, yet ministers are chest thumping and chanting war rhetoric on the suffering population. I’m not surprised that @HassanSMohamud is willing to wager the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians for his re election politics.
