In 1953, George and Barbara Bush lost their daughter Robin to leukemia. She was three years old. Barbara's hair turned white that year — she was 28. By anyone's expectation, mine included, their grief should have defined the rest of their lives. Instead they made a decision: they would wake up every morning and be happy. It's an almost astounding level of mental discipline. The ability not to ignore your horrible loss but to say life is not over. I can choose how I feel. It's not a coincidence that he became president and she raised one. More importantly, they stayed married 73 years. "You have two choices," she said decades later. "You can be happy or you can be unhappy. Just choose to be happy." This is what's key: that mindset wasn't influencing the outcome. The mindset was the outcome. We tend to think of resilience as a trait people have, but it looks more like a series of small decisions, made unglamorously, that become habitual. Eventually, you'll even forget you're making them. The Bushes figured this out 70 years before the placebo sleep researchers did. Worth taking seriously.
Brandon Luu, MD@BrandonLuuMD

Literally just having a delusional golden retriever mindset measurably changes outcomes and physiology. Sleep badly? Convince yourself you're well rested. Stressful day? Convince yourself it's fuel. Failed? Convince yourself it's useful data.

Major cheat code for life: Believe that things will work out for you. Not blindly, but through effort. When you expect good things and pair it with action, you start noticing opportunities others miss. Optimism paired with effort is a powerful force.

99% of people really do not understand abundance as Elon describes it. The fundamental reason is that they don’t understand compound growth. Same people who would probably pick 1 million dollars today over a penny that doubles in value every day for 30 days. It’s a bad choice by the way. You lose out on millions. Imagine if that doubling object was a labor producing robot instead of a penny. Compounding labor. It’s actually crazy if you try and wrap your mind around it. So Elon mentions Universl High Income and the midwits flip a lid. “The elites won’t share” You don’t get it. They won’t need to share. They will make everything so cheap, it is effectively free. Charities will have immense resources to distribute. Unfathomable intelligence will exist to help optimize production and distribution. An unfathomably large labor pool will exist that operates on solar power exclusively. The public work projects that are erected will be unseen before levels of breathtaking. I think we are incredibly blessed to steward this new age of abundance. Can you see it now? Can you see the future?

The company behind POM juice, a juice marketed as a superfood antioxidant-rich drink, was just named California’s 2nd-largest user of paraquat — one of the most toxic herbicides still allowed in the U.S. Over 56,000 pounds sprayed in a single year… on crops used to make this so called health drink. Paraquat has been linked to Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and neurological damage. It drifts into nearby communities and lingers in soil for years. More than 60 countries have already banned it. So why is it still being used here? Help us continue the work to get these chemicals out of our food supply. [momsacrossamerica.com/monthly_donati…]

this is actually insane > be tech guy in australia > adopt cancer riddled rescue dog, months to live > not_going_to_give_you_up.mp4 > pay $3,000 to sequence her tumor DNA > feed it to ChatGPT and AlphaFold > zero background in biology > identify mutated proteins, match them to drug targets > design a custom mRNA cancer vaccine from scratch > genomics professor is “gobsmacked” that some puppy lover did this on his own > need ethics approval to administer it > red tape takes longer than designing the vaccine > 3 months, finally approved > drive 10 hours to get rosie her first injection > tumor halves > coat gets glossy again > dog is alive and happy > professor: “if we can do this for a dog, why aren’t we rolling this out to humans?” one man with a chatbot, and $3,000 just outperformed the entire pharmaceutical discovery pipeline. we are going to cure so many diseases. I dont think people realize how good things are going to get

.@USDOT Secretary @SecDuffy has appointed me chairman of the new, first-of-its kind Beautifying Transportation Infrastructure Council. The Council will advise the Secretary on the aesthetics of highways, bridges, and train stations, among others. The creation of the Council aligns with Trump's Executive Order "Making Federal Architecture Beautiful Again." It is a true honor to be appointed to the Council. From the Golden Gate Bridge to the Merritt Parkway, from Dulles Airport to Cincinnati Union Terminal, America has constructed some of the most aesthetically pleasing infrastructure in the world. Our country did it before, and we can do it again. Beauty in design must not be an afterthought, dismissed as an alleged luxury or anachronism in the name of pure functionalism. Yet for decades far too much of our built environment has been soulless and ugly. Harmony with the natural and historic landscape matters, as does urban revitalization. People want to live, work, and travel in lovable, inspiring places. I look forward to working with the Council in providing guidance on the aesthetics of design.

We have lost 68,000 manufacturing jobs since Trump took office. We have lost 161,000 blue collar jobs. We need new economic leadership that doesn't concentrate wealth & power in the hands of the few. An economy that works for all Americans. We need a new economic patriotism.

One thesis I have is that the San Francisco real estate, despite being extremely expensive Is still “cheap” relatively to the wealth created in the city by the AI boom in the city over the last couple of years Prices aren’t that different than 2019 and yet there is a totally different economic landscape Once OpenAI got traction, it was inevitable prices would start rising, and they did And there is Anthropic, Databricks and slew of others, all located in San Francisco. It’s very possible “you ain’t seen nothing yet”

This is a disaster. These homeless investments save money and lives. It costs over $50,000 per year to "manage" a person living on the street and a fraction of that to bring the same person into safe interim shelter. Is anyone in Sacramento keeping an eye on ROI?

I can understand the pro wealth tax side being dismissive about Sacks and Thiel's departure plans, but this is really bad. Google founders were quietly paying their 13.3% income tax, but the SEIU billionaire tax was a step too far. And what if their company changes HQs?

You see a lot claims that Venezuela has nothing to do with drugs because most of the fentanyl comes from elsewhere. I want to address this: First off, fentanyl isn't the only drug in the world and there is still fentanyl coming from Venezuela (or at least there was). Second, cocaine, which is the main drug trafficked out of Venezuela, is a profit center for all of the Latin America cartels. If you cut out the money from cocaine (or even reduce it) you substantially weaken the cartels overall. Also, cocaine is bad too! Third, yes, a lot of fentanyl is coming out of Mexico. That continues to be a focus of our policy in Mexico and is a reason why President Trump shut the border on day one. Fourth, I see a lot of criticism about oil. About 20 years ago, Venezuela expropriated American oil property and until recently used that stolen property to get rich and fund their narcoterrorist activities. I understand the anxiety over the use of military force, but are we just supposed to allow a communist to steal our stuff in our hemisphere and do nothing? Great powers don't act like that. The United States, thanks to President Trump's leadership, is a great power again. Everyone should take note.

What parts of the CA high speed rail are actually completed? Can your point to a link or document that details the 50+ completed projects (all govt projects, especially ones with this one of funding should have some accounting)? Please link to any legitimate source otherwise it looks totally made up—exactly like the fraudulent spending of $17B that Newsom and the CA Dems are being accused of...

Interesting to see a Dem repeat the MAGA-made-up $72B number. That “fraud” supposedly includes the $17B spent on high-speed rail — which has created 16,000 union jobs and built 50+ COMPLETED projects. Calling union work “fraud” is certainly a choice.
Ro Khanna@RoKhanna

One place you and I probably agree @chamath & @Jason @friedberg is the $72 billion fraud in Sacramento is outrageous and appalling. There needs to be full accountability for the waste and new leadership in Sacramento. Taxpayers are owed an accounting of where every penny of their tax dollars are going --a detailed receipt.

CA's new law requires tortilla companies to add folic acid to their products. They're claiming that they're trying to, "Reduce birth defects in Latino babies." Lack of folate, or lack of synthetic folic acid, is the primary cause of neural tube defects like spina bifida. According to the CDC, the prevalence of spina bifida in the Hispanic population is: - 3.80 per 10,000 babies That's 0.00038%, or almost 1 in every 2,500. But, there is something called an MTHFR gene which makes an enzyme that processes folate, or synthetic folic acid. In someone lacking this gene, they'd have a difficult time breaking down folic acid. The body would struggle to convert folic acid into its active form (L-methylfolate), leading to high homocysteine levels and impaired neurotransmitter production. Lack of this gene would cause health issues like: - Chronic fatigue - Neurological issues (brain fog, memory loss, neuropathy) - Mood problems (depression, anxiety, bipolar) - Digestive issues (mouth sores, tender tongue) - Pregnancy complications (neural tube defects) - Blood clots - Inflammation The percentage of Hispanics who carry the MTHFR gene mutation which causes them to not be able to process folic acid is: - 40%-70% Forcing tortilla companies to add folic acid and advertising it as "We care about Hispanic babies" will create a health crisis in 40%-70% of the Hispanic population when there is only a 0.0004% risk of spina bifida. The problem is, most people won't even recognize that these health issues could be caused by a lack of the MTHFR gene. People will see their doctor complaining of the issues. Their doctor will run standardized lab tests. They won't test genes. They won't figure out the issue. They'll prescribe medications to "reduce the symptoms." Plus, if 40%-70% of the Hispanic population can't process folic acid to begin with, then the risk of neural tube defects and spina bifida won't really change anyway. Just another way CA lawmakers virtue signal claiming "We Care" while secretly trying to create more health issues.
