Joyful meeting with @theSNP Perthshire North Constituency Association today. I expressed my deepest thanks to everyone who campaigned locally to secure our election success. Good to have my constituency colleague and our new Westminster Leader @DaveDooganSNP there too.

@LiangRhea Would it not be equally clear to say any man is entitled to think he's a woman on the basis of sexist stereotypes but to repeatedly force others to affirm it is gratuitous, disrespectful and unnecessary?

In the excellent long read by @RobBurl, the sentence 'what I was about to learn the hard way [re trans issue] was that this new generation rejected debate' leapt out. I trust this doesn't apply to any of our new MSPs, who would otherwise be very much in the wrong job.

‘Equality Network had a total income of £612,843 last year with around 90 per cent of that — £553,711 — coming from the Scottish Government… The Scottish Government said: “The Equality Network is an independent charity and is accountable for the information it provides’.

The Scottish Government said: “The Equality Network is an independent charity and is accountable for the information it provides.” You need to do better than that @scotgov - your name is on the guidance as a supporter. equality-network.org/wp-content/upl…

Given the scenes in Glasgow over the past few hours, the silence tonight from a Scottish political and sporting establishment (with all of its personnel overlaps), which is normally eager to rush into comment, is very, very telling ...

'You can't have a member of parliament feeling undervalued or disrespected' says new Presiding Officer re pronouns. Just wondering how he felt as an onlooker those many times former First Minister addressed (eg) Douglas Ross in blatantly demeaning and disrespectful terms.

The Presiding Officer is not responsible for the content of MSPs speeches/contributions. Not sure how the new PO thinks he has the power to compel what they say at all.

Far as I know journalists have always been able to approach MSPs for comment within designated parts of Holyrood. Don't see why that should change now.

I guarantee as we speak @ScotParl staff are writing a new ‘guide’ for MSPs/staff on ‘how to address people’. They should consult good lawyers, otherwise this may bite back. Will Scotlands national ‘parliament for all’ end up sued on compelled speech? Perfectly plausible.

‘I won’t stand for any misgendering’ ‘The newly elected Kenny Gibson says when it comes to preferred pronouns, MSPs should respect what people wish to be called’ @thetimes Is Gibson really planning to try to compel belief affirmative speech, and restrict legal and accurate speech, under threat of penalty? @lzbthcarrellis @sus176 And what an ordeal it's been for the poor man down there in awful London, being in a well-paying, high-profile job he repeatedly chose to put himself forward for.

@satiricole @moomintroll41 Hearing the Presiding Officer explain why the wishes of some MSPs supersede the wishes of other MSPs would be welcome.

Iris Duane and Q Manivannan are both male. Are their colleagues allowed to reflect this *scientifically observable* fact in their language? And the emphasis on “choice” and “respect” rings hollow when you consider that the majority in the parliament have now been denied their own subjectivity. If you think this belief system is an obvious nonsense, or even questionable, you’re denied the choice to “deliberately” reflect that in your own language. Doesn’t look promising for a supposedly non-partisan role.
