In '08, @billychasen's "Firefly" let you see real-time cursors of a URL's visitors. In '21, @laurentdelrey's "Presence" app used haptic feedback to *feel* others using it. I'm so bored of comment boxes & video circles. Who else pushed the boundaries of being together online?

in the 2010’s I used to go online to feel less alone. now, being online makes me feel more lonely.

@aliceyuanzhang when Alice moved away we wanted to stay in touch, but often the tools we used to connect left us feeling fatigue, distracted and numb. so we began this project with an intimate, creative ritual – every day for two weeks we improvised a new way to connect with each other.

what if we built software that grows like an oak tree – unfurling gently towards where it's needed the most, taking time to figure out its place on earth, made to last for 100's of years.

THING, our wip streaming platform for artists, now has a web page: thing.tube critics say its disorderly and unstructured — which happens to be exactly how it feels to publicly, cooperatively build a decentralized network 🌪
