@PCSnow1604 I think the prevalence of ambulance ramping in basically all states of Australia signifies that the design of hospitals is worthy of criticism.

@Ignorethis92797 @educator4ever36 No we don’t teach that. I would teach my students not to use imprecise statements such as “women are much more toxic than men” or vice versa, rather we would strive for greater clarity in our arguments

@solfatariat @educator4ever36 No. I mean where females practice trying to drive males into the ground and ridicule them continually. Women are much more toxic than men

@Ignorethis92797 @educator4ever36 Yeah I mean if you consider toxic femininity to be “behaviours and practices that support harmful stereotypes and expectations of women” then I would say we do look at toxic femininity.

Can we trust cognitive load theory? It has evolved so much over the years and has now become so complicated that it’s best teachers only consider it a ‘rule of thumb’, writes @cbokhove tes.com/magazine/teach…

Biologically Primary and Secondary Knowledge in CLT starts to sound a whole lot less compelling when you do approximately 5 minutes of reading into Evolutionary Psychology… here’s the theorist himself with some quality output

@dperkinsed Based on Geary’s very questionable writing for Quillette I’d say it’s secondary… and he missed out on the explicit instruction

Is the learning of things like empathy biologically primary or secondary? 🤔

@ryandal @mathillustrated @C_Hendrick Are you referring to the original blog or Carl’s response? RE: the blog post, I would say a charitable critique would afford the writer the presumption of their specific context when talking about racism

@solfatariat @mathillustrated @C_Hendrick If you read the original post you’ll see it’s about every tradition not western situated whereas the critique is western/US centred hence the irony. It could be seen as an inadvertent example of the adage that both sides of the culture war are agents of American imperialism.

The idea that a knowledge rich curriculum, explicit instruction or asking kids to sit up and pay attention is “White Supremacy” is the kind of guff that could only be cooked up in a university department. EVERY tradition of formal instruction that has ever existed, has demanded some version of focus, stillness and sustained attention from its students, because that is what shared instruction requires, not because Europeans invented sitting still. Lisa Delpit called this out from within the left decades ago, pointing out that refusing to teach the codes of power explicitly doesn’t liberate anyone, it just makes sure they remain with the children who already have them
Ralph Pantozzi@mathillustrated

“Peps and pals genuinely believe that they are social justice warriors sharing methods for creating orderly classrooms, where the-best-that-has-been-thought-and-said cultural capital can be imparted through a knowledge-rich curriculum taught by highly-educated altruistic teachers” tenpencemore.wordpress.com/2026/02/17/sla…

@ryandal @mathillustrated @C_Hendrick Mind you. I’m sure you can find many examples of where hegemonic cultural practices are imposed on “outside” groups in most societies. Was this a sensible Confucian approach to instruction??

@ryandal @mathillustrated @C_Hendrick What’s the irony? Racism is a culturally and socially situated concept, so of course it’s a western critique. In more homogenous cultures it’s pretty normal that there would be different views on these practices
