@SicSemper1983 @AsherGenesius @ChinaUncensored People from the same ethnic group doing different and even opposite things with their lives isn’t evidence of a unified force “playing both sides.” It’s an example of people who share one identity category (Jewish) being otherwise completely different people w/ different goals.

“tHE jEwS CReATeD cOMmuNISm!” No, that’s stupid. I’m not calling you stupid if you believe that. You’ve just been lied to. It’s the idea that’s stupid. Read the writings of Rousseau (actually don’t, he WAS stupid) He was born about a hundred years before Marx and he was spouting off essentially all the same basic ideas about private property and human nature. And he was a Calvinist. The intellectual currents of what we call Communism were already there in Europe for a long time before Marx. Marx, like all communists, can’t create anything, they just steal. Saying Communism is Jewish because Marx’s grandparents were Jewish is fake and gay. Communism is its own religion, a twisted evil one based on envy, with no possibility for redemption for those deemed guilty. It brings out the worst in all of us. It’s our own inner darkness.

I thought I was autistic. I was wrong. I was 30 in 2019 when stories of women discovering they were autistic all along began appearing everywhere. They popularized a newer understanding of autism, with its own “female presentation.” It was framed as a scientific correction to a historical wrong against women, the kind of narrative the press finds irresistible. Like so many women, I felt immense relief when I was formally diagnosed. It offered an explanation for the mental health crises of my youth and the daily realities of my adult life. Then I spent a year in the online autism community. What I saw there, especially the way activists treated parents of severely impaired children, turned me into a critic of neurodiversity. But it was becoming a journalist in 2022, after discovering detransitioners’ stories, that forced me to question narratives about identity and diagnosis, including my own. Journalism also required the social skills autism says I should have lacked. From there, the rest unraveled: many traits I had come to associate with autism are not uncommon in the general population, but through the “female autism” framework, they looked like a meaningful pattern. I don’t think my story is unique. The same incentives that kept my diagnosis intact may also help explain why so many women are entering the autism category in adulthood. @abaukdiscussion @buttonslives @RationalBlonde 2. My opinion is that these false positives are caused by insurance companies’ profit motives, and are global across all diagnoses. That coexists fine with the fact that underdiagnosis is more common - less qualified people diagnosing results in both.

@abaukdiscussion @buttonslives @RationalBlonde 1. . Two things can be true. Underdiagnosis can be more common, and the small number of false positives are also human beings who are impacted by those false positives. Acknowledging those people is important, ESPECIALLY on a post like this, which is being read by them.

@abaukdiscussion @buttonslives @RationalBlonde I feel like there’s a disconnect here since my first comment was “I agree with you.” To rephrase, I suppose: Any instances of false positives in diagnosis in the US are not unique to autism or any specific disorder and are instead quirks of insurance companies’ profit motives.

@abaukdiscussion @buttonslives @RationalBlonde What I’m trying to say is that the people with anecdotes about being diagnosed after an inadequate assessment are not lying, as this happens across the board in American psych care. I’m not trying to overshadow general underdiagnosis, just explain how 2 things can be true.

@abaukdiscussion @buttonslives @RationalBlonde To be clear, I agree with you about all of that, including that it’s under diagnosed overall. The problem I’ve mentioned above about less qualified practitioners is more an explanation for the people whose screenings WERE questionable.

@abaukdiscussion @buttonslives @RationalBlonde I also think there is a problem with the enshittification of American healthcare where insurance companies save money by contracting midlevels (NPs and Master’s therapists) who have a relatively worse understanding of the literature than PhDs and tend to over/misdiagnose.

@abaukdiscussion @buttonslives @RationalBlonde I agree with you about this. The diagnosis is meaningful and proper assessments by legitimate experts aren’t turning up false positives; the increase in adult autism diagnoses can be explained at lease partially by the fact that adults over the age of 35 weren’t screened as kids.

@joshuaguerci @AlexKepfer @BriannaWu 4. I guess what I’m saying is she comes off as someone who could be a great folk artist like Dylan or John Prine but instead of staying in a lane where vocal training isn’t important, she managed to market her way into a lane she is not technically skilled enough to be in.

@joshuaguerci @AlexKepfer @BriannaWu 3. When I criticize her musicianship, what I mean is that while her songwriting is great, she is not that technically proficient at guitar, so she sticks to safe chord shapes and strumming patterns. One could say the same about folk, but those guys know who they are.

@AlexKepfer @joshuaguerci @BriannaWu She’s an average singer and musician when compared to nobodies you can find on YouTube. She’s shockingly bad/inconsistent for a career musician. But she’s a pretty good songwriter and an EXCELLENT businesswoman, and I actually find her career really inspiring in that way.

@BriannaWu @DerrickSlone I agree with so many of your takes but hard disagree here, Olivia will stand the test of time because she fills the moody angry girl niche. Sabrina is a Madonna/Britney. Olivia is an Alanis/Avril, and basically the only Gen Z pop star who appeals to this niche.

@BriannaWu @justforx8985828 Personally I think it’s both - conservatives have amplified the worst excesses of trans activism to sway public opinion. I remember how they failed to gain support for bathroom bills using similar messaging in 2016, so I don’t think their strategy works without these excesses.

@BriannaWu @justforx8985828 The issue could be that conservative messaging has gotten better, it could be that leftist messaging has been so off putting that it’s had the opposite effect, or it could be a combination of the two. If it was just transphobia as usual, 2022 and 2025 wouldn’t look so different.

Believe it or not, the lunatic fringe of progressives who insisted on trans women in women’s sports, transvestites in women’s locker rooms, and people’s daughters being able to self ID into taking testosterone ARE ACTUALLY EXTREMELY RESPONSIBLE for destroying our civil rights.
