New newsletter: MODERN FATHERHOOD WOULD BE UNRECOGNIZABLE TO A 1950'S DAD Compared to their Boomer parents, childcare time among Millennial dads has more than doubled. Compared to their Silent Generation grandparents, it’s nearly quadrupled. You will be hard-pressed to find any part of day-to-day modern life that has changed more in the last half-century than the way today’s parents—and fathers, in particular—spend their time. The new American dad is more present and more exhausted—but also, more satisfied with life. What's behind this half-century transformation? Today's piece combines history, economic analysis, and gorgeous charts galore from @AzizSunderji

Actually, the premise is that slowly and over time several subtle errors crept in and then snowballed into severe errors by the middle ages and needed to be reformed. Now you might think they are wrong, but that is their actual claim.
Garrett Ham@garrettham_esq

Protestantism's deepest assumption is that Christianity went wrong almost immediately and stayed wrong for 1,500 years. That's not a small claim. It's the entire premise of the movement.

@DZRishmawy The revisionist history and flattening of it that I see from Catholics (and Eastern O) online will never cease to amaze me.

@DZRishmawy Well, to be fair, if you believe the Catholic Church is infallible in magisterial authority and declarations, and that she and hasn’t flip-flopped on issues, then you’ll believe that it’s been the same (and only and consistent) expression of faith for 1500 yrs. (Not the case).

@garrettham_esq I would suggest asking a Protestant they’d actual claim rather than a strawman. For charity, intellectual rigor, and honesty. If you claim something is the “entire premise” it’s important that’s an accurate claim.

Transgender ideology is the conspiracy theory that claims there’s a medical establishment that has worked hand-in-glove with patriarchal institutions to “assign” a gender at birth. And that by pumping kids with hormonal drugs and slicing them up, they can switch genders.
Nate Silver@NateSilver538

Yeah, this is a more common belief than I think people want to acknowledge. In part because Democrats have a bigger delta between normie/base and elite/media discourse (i.e. less tolerance for conspiratorial thinking).

This MRI study on young kids just exposed something terrifying: They scanned the brains of 60 children aged 3–5 — including 5-year-old Rose — and found interactive screen time is causing measurable loss of white matter in their developing brains. Even just 2 hours a day is linked to impaired neural connectivity, language, and literacy development. Professor Mike Nagel (neuroscientist and father) said his first reaction was simply: “Wow… I was not anticipating seeing anything like that.” We’re physically changing children’s brains before they even start school — and the damage is visible on scans. This one actually unsettled me. I’ve always suspected too much screen time was bad, but seeing real white matter loss in toddlers hits different. Parents of little ones — has this kind of research changed how much screen time you allow?

1) Sasse had a Senate record of votes for family-friendly policy; 2) America has already run an experiment where the liberal half of the country has more generous social spending, the birthrate results would not win this guy his bet. x.com/fishstark/stat…
Fish Stark@fishstark

All right @BenSasse, let's make a bet. Let's divide the US in half. I'll let you pick which half. In your half, you ban Candy Crush. In my half we institute 16 weeks of paid parental leave, universal childcare, & a restored child tax credit. Let's see which has more babies.

BREAKING: In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court rules that racial gerrymandering, which has been used to create majority black congressional districts for decades, is unconstitutional. Justice Samuel Alito wrote the opinion for the majority.
