The arrest of Vinesh Chandel, co-founder of I-PAC, barely 10 days before the Bengal elections, is not just alarming- It shakes the very idea of a level playing field. At a time when WB should be moving toward free and fair elections, this kind of action sends a chilling message: If you work with the opposition, you could be next. That’s not democracy- that’s intimidation! What makes it even harder to ignore is the double standard. Those facing serious corruption allegations seem to find protection the moment they switch sides, while others are swiftly targeted at politically convenient moments. People are not blind to this anymore. When institutions meant to protect democracy start feeling like tools of pressure, trust begins to erode. On one side, the Election Commission. On the other, agencies like the ED, NIA, CBI stepping in at the most sensitive time. It creates an atmosphere of fear, not fairness. India has always taken pride in its democracy- loud, messy but free. But today, many are beginning to ask: are we still that country? This is bigger than one arrest. It is about whether our institutions remain independent and whether every citizen, no matter their political belief, can participate without fear. Because once fear replaces freedom, democracy becomes just a word. To Amit Shah and the BJP’s power structure- Be in Bengal on the 4th and 5th of May. Come with Gyanesh Kumar and every agency you deploy. Bengal will not be bullied, will not be silenced and will not bow. This is a land that answers pressure with resistance and it will show you exactly what that means!

BJP wants to bring their Talibani mindset to Bengal. The "Poriborton" they promise is REGRESSION OF THE DARKEST KIND. A Bengal where women receiving Lakshmir Bhandar are caged inside their homes. Where people's houses are razed by bulldozers. Where frenzied mobs run riot, destroying everything in their path. Where there are bans on what people eat, what they wear, who they love, and which faith they practise. I see no difference between those who vandalised Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar's bust and those who vandalised Buddha statues in Afghanistan. The contempt is identical. Only the geography has changed. So fierce is BJP's hatred for Bengal that they seek to bow this land into subjugation through TYRANNY, COERCION, INTIMIDATION, and HUMILIATION. But they do not know Bengal. Bengal is a free land. A proud land. A land that would embrace the gallows before it polishes the boots of oppressors. The Bangla-birodhi Zamindars will learn that the hard way. This election will be their lesson.

Two young lives from Nandigram are beginning a journey toward healing, and I am glad that we could play a small role in making that possible. During our Sebaashray camp in Nandigram, we learned about two young girls, Suparna Jana and Arpita Dalui, both suffering from complex heart conditions. Their families had been carrying the weight of this struggle, living with the uncertainty that accompanies such serious medical challenges. The moment their situation came to our attention, arrangements were made to send them to AIIMS, New Delhi, where they can receive the specialised treatment they require. Within our limited capacity, we have ensured that every aspect of their treatment is being taken care of, because no child’s chance at life and health should ever be constrained by economic hardship. May they return home soon with renewed strength and bright smiles. In the end, the true measure of any society is how gently it cares for those who are most vulnerable.

I was shaken to my core upon learning of the brutal murder of Sukhen Mahato, a young migrant worker from Bandwan in Purulia, who had travelled to Pune in search of livelihood. The thought of what Sukhen must have suffered in his final moments, and the trauma his parents and siblings now carry, is deeply distressing. The very night this tragedy came to my attention, I ensured that our local leaders reached his family so they would not be left alone in their darkest hour. Today, I visited their home in Tumrasole, sat with his grieving parents, and assured them that their quest for justice will not be abandoned. It is profoundly troubling that migrant workers from Bengal continue to face hostility and violence in BJP-ruled states. A citizen’s language, identity, or place of origin can never be grounds for persecution. The Constitution guarantees every Indian the right to move freely, to seek employment anywhere in the country, and to live with dignity and security. Any failure to protect these rights is a failure of constitutional duty. The Maharashtra Government and its law enforcement agencies must act with urgency and firmness, apprehending every individual involved, ensuring a time-bound prosecution, and delivering exemplary punishment. Anything less would be an injustice not only to Sukhen’s memory, but to the very principles that bind our Republic together.

Despite a clear order from the SC and its own formal communication, the @ECISVEEP has failed to release and publish the list of LOGICAL DISCREPANCIES that it was mandated to publish by the 24th January- today in all Gram Panchayats and municipal wards. The same software that allegedly assessed and analysed over 7 crore enumeration forms and miraculously detected “logical discrepancies” within one hour on 16 December immediately after the draft rolls were published now seems to have lost its logic, speed, credibility and confidence. Three obvious questions therefore remains stark and unanswered: 1️⃣ WHAT EXACTLY IS THE ECI TRYING TO HIDE ? 2️⃣ If DISCREPANCIES could be identified in one hour, why does it take days to DISCLOSE them? 3️⃣ Is the @ECISVEEP looking for LOGIC or hiding the DISCREPANCIES?

India’s climate is being deliberately poisoned. Right-wing forces, emboldened by power, are openly attacking Dalits, STs and minorities - through fear, lynching, threats and hate, all under the garb of religion. When those in power are the perpetrators and reward the protectors of this violence, impunity becomes policy. This is not governance; this is moral collapse. These attacks are unconstitutional, illegal and tear apart the very foundation of India- our UNITY in DIVERSITY. Silence today is complicity. History will not forgive this.
