Instead Trump’s Interior Department created a policy that forces his top appointees to personally sign off on solar and storage projects on federal land. That political review has jammed the pipeline. More than 450 clean energy projects are now at risk. That is over a third of all new power capacity this country planned to build through 2030. The solar industry estimates this bottleneck could add $81 billion to household energy bills and another $40 billion to businesses over the next seven years. A federal judge already called the policy likely arbitrary and capricious. The administration is doing it anyway. President Obama was the kind of leader we need more of right now - someone who led with courage, conviction, and a strong moral compass. It was an honor to serve in his White House and carry the nuclear codes for him. On the other hand, Donald Trump poses an existential threat to our democracy.
