No Stage II clearance. Stage I is not permission to cut and Stage II can still be rejected. Damage will be irreversible. No undertaking that even one mangrove needs to be cleared. No demarcation, no boundary pillars, no DFO on site. Trees cut in the open, unmarked and unnumbered!

Works for cutting & trimming of mangroves that will be impacted owing to the Mumbai Coastal Road (North) project have begun today at Charkop. While around 45,000 mangroves are getting impacted because of the project off these around 9,000 mangroves will be permanently cut.

@richapintoi The cutting is happening WITHOUT Stage II forest clearance (Stage I is NOT permission to cut), in violation of the HC's Dec 12 order, and for a 'linear project' that involves reclaimed sea land, tunnels and bridges. That is not linear by any law. #SaveMumbaiMangroves

At the recently-concluded Mumbai Climate Week, the Minister of Environment, Pankaja Munde, was asked if cutting 45,675 mangroves was justified in the city at highest risk of sea level rise in India. Please listen to her reply. Lack of knowledge is a dangerous thing. As is idiocy.
