Pilate said he found no fault and there was no legal basis for the charges against him. He even explicitly said Jesus blood was on their hands.

God came to earth, (as Jesus) lived a perfect life, and was crucified by the Jews as the ultimate sacrifice bringing an end to the old covenant. So now Christians, God’s chosen people, no longer have to live by Mosaic law.
