There is some chatter about Angelina Jolie not looking like herself at a recent event. Someone asked if she might have had a stroke. You be the judge, did something change? (Jokieanglxfan)

@Willnhyrp @nypost The only reason people care is because it is on video and was trending online. Otherwise no one would care about a HR ball at a baseball game.

@AngieAll388992 @mattxiv they are smart enough to use others as a scape goat to continue to push for more power and less and less accountability all the while failing more and more with the people pushing to give them even more money and power.

@AngieAll388992 @mattxiv No, they are smart, at being politicians. they know enough to push certain things that people will get behind while knowing it does not solve any problems. There is a reason Dems push for increasing min wage, they will get votes and they know increasing it doesn't fix anything

@KGibson289 @mattxiv People want to believe the issues are just the evil rich not paying enough while ignoring how much the gov already spends, but politicians never want to admit wasteful spending or hold themselves to account. Easier to point the finger at the boogieman

@soos0705 @mattxiv 100%. Add that to our currency constantly losing value year over year, it compounds and most people don't understand the mechanics behind it.

@KGibson289 @mattxiv And people know this anywhere outside of gov. If a person/business is burning cash the answer is never to spend more, it is to tighten your belt and figure out what is working and was is not. But for gov the answer is always we just need a little more.

@soos0705 @mattxiv You're not wrong. Tax increases are just moving money from private enterprises where there's accountability to government where there's seemingly none. Can't tax your way out of a spending problem.

@CaseykinNorCal @mattxiv Agreed and the gov be it D or R care only about the stock market. They say the economy is great if the market is doing well. Not because the average person is actually doing well. So the gov goes out of its way to prop up the market at all costs making the rich richer.

The thing that has lead to billionaires getting so rich is the boom in the stock market since 2000. From the time the stock market started it took over 100 years to reach the 10,000 point level. Today the stock market, Dow Jones, is over 49,000 This huge increase in the stock market has driven up the wealth of people who own a lot of stock. This huge increase in the stock market has also helped out everyone who owns a 401K or depends on a pension for their retirement

@Janastas @mattxiv Sorry, no I meant the B and not the M, my mistake. My point was that a $100B tax is not going to cover a $400B cost. a $100B in taxes is about $2.5k per resident.

You are deeply flawed in your understanding of the math. Or maybe you accidentally dropped two zeros This is public record as part of the bills submitted in the California legislature. These are the estimated costs and this tax would only fund partially one year only; then what do we do the following year?

@lmanhart @mattxiv @Aravis2416 No the tax increase is going to cover money they already spent. Way gov works, spend now figure out how to get it later. They pretend it will be used for all sorts of causes people want, but in reality it is to cover what they are already spending

You must be naive. The money they're trying to extract from that bill is probably going to help corrupt insurance companies and unions, not for your medical care. It's probably for the medical care of illegal immigrants/refugees who are the poorest, but not for you if you're a citizen or resident.

@CaseykinNorCal @mattxiv Why the massive increases in spending as a main driver in the 1% getting so much more rich. The spending doesn't benefit the average citizen and gets funneled into NGO's or other corps via large gov contracts. Idea that more taxes fixes anything ignores that they caused it

@soos0705 @mattxiv And we will not even talk about the billions of government money getting handed over the NGOs where there is even less accountability and let's be honest a lot more fraud.

@CaseykinNorCal @mattxiv But the big issue is messaging, people need to know how much spending and revenues have increased. People still like to say people paid more in 1950 when that is not the case. Both revenues and spending have far outpaced inflation and yet nothing gets better. Fix the issues first

@CaseykinNorCal @mattxiv Or never auditing or looking at results. Keep increasing the budgets even as results get worse and worse. Doesn't matter if a gov entity is failing just keep giving them more money and they will fix everything.

@eatingatnip @mattxiv If anyone tries to say this, just point out how much the fed budget has increased, near $6T in a short period of time, near 5x over inflation and things are worse. So if $6T in additional spending has gotten us worse results why would a little more spending fix anything?

@mattxiv The poorest among us won't benefit from increased taxes. Every time we increase taxes it's a waste. The government is just going to keep things the way they are while misappropriating our tax dollars ad infinitum.

@Bucknizzem @mattxiv Bingo, not sure why anyone doesn't see we have a spending problem and that giving them more money solves nothing. Fed spending has increased over 5x over inflation and nothing has gotten better, many would say worse. So $6T more in spending has fixed nothing but a little more wil

@mattxiv Shouldn’t we look first at big government and how they spend the money they steal in taxes before taking even more from hard working Americans? How much has Newsom spent on homeless and the high speed rail? What does California have to show for all the money spent?

@uturn0427 @mattxiv And politicians are smart knowing people will buy in to sticking it to the rich and also know the average person is bad at math. 5% on the rich will bring in $100B or $2.5k per person. Does anyone think anything will be done with $2.5k per resident?

@Jim_Kozlinski @mattxiv People ignore the direct correlation to massive increases in gov spending and the massive increase in wealth of the 1%. The reason they have gotten so rich is because of the Gov, so the idea of giving the gov more money to solve it ignores they are the one that created it

@Janastas @mattxiv 5% tax would amount to about $100B or $2.5k per person in CA. Estimates for free HC are about $450M per year. So yeah, how does a one time $100B help fund an annual $450M cost? But that is just the reason to get it pushed through and get people behind it. They just want more $$

A one time wealth tax does not fund healthcare for all. Simply does not mathematically. There is never been a better quote than Margaret Thatcher’s as to the ultimate flaw in these programs: “the problem with taking other people’s money is you eventually run out of money to take.”
