NCAA should have come up with some kind of compensation package for athletes in revenue sports decades ago that didn’t completely kill the myth that these players were amateurs and college students. These sports will live on zombified for a good while but the thing that they were is dead.

$50 million college football rosters is wild. I think college football — and basketball to a degree — are headed to a place where only the ten biggest schools can afford to pay players and a ton of the others are facing bankruptcy and/or cutting tons of programs to keep up.

The technocratic lib ethos that dominated the top layer of Obama’s ideological apparatus—of which Matt was a part—ran on the assumption that we could solve all of our problems with One Weird Trick interventions and state of the art social science like Waiting for Superman education reforms.
None of this stuff worked. The utopia never came. Everything just got worse and worse and by the end of Obama’s second term it was all proto woke race war, a billion immigrants for the new global village, and necrotic, festering managerialism, like a dead beached whale moments before its bloating carcass explodes.

Cole Allen, the gunman from last night’s WH Correspondents Dinner, maintained an active online presence, especially on the leftwing social media platform Bluesky where he went by the handle ColdForce.bsky.social with multiple references violence and guns. In one post he calls President Trump the Antichrist. In another he recommends buying guns in reaction to Trump’s DOJ exploring ways to ban firearm purchases from transgenders. In one post he calls Trump a sociopathic mob boss and in another referred to him as a traitor with known connections to Putin, repeating a favorite leftwing Russian Hoax talking point. He also attacks JD Vance for advocating an end to America’s funding the war in Ukraine and for his criticisms of the Pope. He seems pretty fixated on Ukraine more generally. He also frequently interacts with Will Stancil’s Bluesky account, among others.

@drantbradley When my parents moved to Atlanta they lived on this street. Maybe not this street exactly but with same brick front and hardy plank sides and back. Typical Atlanta metro subdivision built by Mexicans in the 00s. White middle class is I think pretty invisible as well.
