I created an admin project to visualize terrain, dungeon, and mob generation rules for Dungeonpunk LITE. It's is a separate client that can interact with SpacetimeDB.

I've finally accepted that @convex has a big drawback to it. I got too addicted to everything being real time in my projects. Now when a app isn't real time I generally don't want to use the app. Some apps don't real time but most that I use need it badly. Real time sync should be a standard that all apps have, it would make life so much easier.

Since I'm feeling 'sharey'. The game is an MMO. Yep, #1 rule, never build an MMO as your first game. I believe that to be true, but this is part of the experience. Shout out to @spacetime_db here, because I think using this tech is really the only way this could even be possible for a solo first time dev to even consider. It's also web based, because it sort of has to be to let STDB do a lot of the work. But that also means the choice of Bevy as a game engine reduces it to headless sim and I don't get to play with any of the graphics. It also puts a lot of pressure on Codex's web UI choices to surface, organize, and stylize the game loops. It's good at knowing what to surface, but not good at layout or style. Enjoy the long weekend!

@spacetime_db Is there any place where can we read why we shouldn't use SpacetimeDB? I am building an app similar to Airbnb and I not sure if I should use it. Reading though docs and articles I am convinced to use it. But seeing others saying all the things they've said it makes me unsure

Vision finally starting to come together! The end goal is to be able to create, share and mix props to create endless variations! Building on top of @spacetime_db for the backend I can do all kinds of cool stuff here. Exciting! #threejs #gamedev #indiedev

the SpacetimeDB controversy is obviously silly but... the architecture has a lot of merit you can get stupid QPS if you push the entire txn into the db this has important implications if you're building a system where metadata scaling is the bottleneck *hint* *hint*

@matvelloso I love the SpacetimeDB approach. The DB limits what clients see, client connects directly to the DB and chooses what it cares about. Client calls a reducer (stored procedure) to update DB. No messy REST, no annoying GraphQL, your webserver isn't middle-manning the data & updates
