@educator4ever36 @NAACP Times have changed? If that was true then why did states rush to redraw maps and whittle down Black voting blocks? You know, like it was BEFORE the VRA?

@spelaka @NAACP I know that but times have changed. There are so many millionaires and billionaires that are Black and we should be calling on them to make sacrifices to this cause, not 18 year olds on the precipice of what could be amazing futures. It’s selfish to ask them to do this.

Do not use college students, many who are very poor and need the NIL and scholarships, to fight your fight. Our Black athletes deserve to go to college and excel without feeling like they have to carry this responsibility. Shame on you @NAACP
NAACP@NAACP

The NAACP is taking a stand. Today, we launch the #OutofBounds campaign, a national call to action for Black athletes, families, fans, and allies. In response to states erasing Black voting representation after the Supreme Court’s Louisiana v. Callais decision, we are demanding accountability. "Out of Bounds is our answer: we are naming the contradiction, and we are calling on Black athletes, families, fans, and consumers to act on it. The same power that built these programs can be redirected." —NAACP President and CEO @DerrickNAACP This is about more than sports. It’s about justice. @educator4ever36 @Diaryofagenius @NAACP The new racism is green? No Susan it’s not . But if it makes you feel better scholars in the turn of last century identified class as the ultimate barrier. However, in this country race and class are often interchangeable. We can talk about intersectionality another time

I acknowledge that racism exists even toward wealthy Blacks but I think it’s a hell of a lot easier to over come with a multimillion dollar NIL and efforts to combat it from that angle. And in all honesty, I’ve said the new color of racism is green. The more green (money) you have, the less you experience it. How about we push for our Black million and billionaires to fight this - they have time and money and let’s let our young talented Black athletes make their way and their money first. Jay Z, 50cent, Obama, Michael Jordan, Robert Smith take the lead here?

@educator4ever36 @Diaryofagenius @NAACP So you are just policing how they are active. They can exercise their activism however they want. If they decide not to go about this way I don’t begrudge them. But what we aren’t doing is saying “well don’t do it this way.” It’s none of your concern and it gives Boomer energy

I’m not telling anyone not to be active. These athletes can protest in so many different ways but I’m absolutely never going to suggest a scholarship athlete with or without an NIL play around with that for a cause that is so not their fault and unlikely to lead to anything changing.

@educator4ever36 @Diaryofagenius @NAACP And what’s more to act as if these young people shouldn’t get involved is insulting to their autonomy as adults. But hell, they should go to Tennessee, register to vote and then vote every one of those despicable people out of office. Same on Louisiana and SC.

@educator4ever36 @Diaryofagenius @NAACP So to ask 18 year olds who have the CHOICE to delay the quick paycheck so that white institutions can’t make more $ off their underpaid labor reeks of audacity. And could these same athletes go to Ohio instead of Bama? Michigan instead of LSU? Yes and could they be great ? Yes

@educator4ever36 @Diaryofagenius @NAACP It’s wild to me that an older white woman is on this app telling young Black people not to be active participants. It’s giving “our negroes are happy” and “we don’t need those outsiders stirring things up.”

@educator4ever36 @Diaryofagenius @NAACP So young Black people should just go along with the program as if nothing is wrong? As if this doesn’t impact their lives right now? Just so you know, having money doesn’t exclude us from racism.

@educator4ever36 @NAACP lol. And what would you know about what Black college students have to bear? The Civil Rights Movement of the 50’s and 60’s was advanced precisely because of college students. The 4 men at NCAT who led sit ins, the Freedom Riders who traveled just to expand the right to vote
