OK, so apparently I have made a few thousand new Japanese friends by talking up that quirky but addictive tank-themed anime, Girls und Panzer. So here's a tip to all my new friends who might be planning a vacation to the USA. Be sure to visit the National Museum of Military Vehicles in Dubois, Wyoming. nmmv.org It's an astonishingly great collection of authentic (mostly American) fighting vehicles. You can easily spend a day lost in there. But the really cool thing is that it's not too far from Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park, so you can see some of America's greatest natural treasures and an amazing tank museum in the same trip. Plus in Wyoming you can get great bison BBQ. Come visit!

OK, since it appears that today is the day to discuss weird cultural differences between Japan and the USA, may I strongly recommend to all of my military history nerd followers that you watch “Girls und Panzer”? It’s anime from Japan. You can find it on Amazon Prime. Bear with me while I explain the insane premise. It’s about Japanese all-girls schools that engage in the sport of “tankery.” These schoolgirls ride around in historically accurate, WWII-era armored fighting vehicles and engage in active combat that appears to include actual HEAT and sabot rounds, except when there is a hit nobody gets hurt and a little white flag pops out of the dead tank. So there is this big tankery tournament. But here’s where it gets even weirder: each school has the vehicles, resources, tactics and uniforms of a WWII combatant. So the US-style school has wayyyyy more logistics than anybody else, the Soviet school goes roaring across the steppes (see the video one comment post below) and the German school has the best tanks that break down a lot. Also the British school takes war breaks to drink tea. Why would I recommend such a silly concept? Because whoever did it went to a fanatical level of detail on the vehicles themselves and the associated tactics and employment, as well as very accurate propaganda themes from the era. It’s so incongruous—highly accurate military history and Japanese schoolgirl anime. And I love incongruity in entertainment. It’s so silly, but in a weirdly addictive way. And I don't even watch anime.

@johnkonrad @RobManess @BuzzPatterson @MCCCANM I love the merchant marine crews! You all are awesome. I spent 2004 loading and unloading army equipment from ships in Kuwait. Those ship crews would let us get snacks in the galley, take a shit on porcelain and enjoy air conditioning for a while. You’re awesome.

I apologize to all my regular followers for the rants this morning. But I need someone to explain this to me with crayons. I have never once seen @RobManess or @BuzzPatterson or @MCCCANM trashing commercial airline crews who volunteer to fly soldiers and equipment into combat zones. NOT ONCE. Maybe I missed it but… NEVER NEVER HAVE I SEEN IT B U T EVERY SINGLE DAY Some Navy officer comes on this app to trash 🇺🇸 ship crews. And when you call them out, they come out of the woodwork to dogpile you and then run off to their little private knitting circles on Bluesky and Reddit. The Marines love us. The Air Force thanks us for delivering their fuel and bombs. The Army is a mixed bag. But the Navy? The one branch that literally cannot sail anywhere without the Merchant Marine alongside? Someone please explain. With crayons. Please explain why it wouldn’t even cross a USAF vet’s mind to publicly mocking a Civil Air Patrol pilot or an airline captain for risking their life in combat airlifts but U.S. Merchant Mariners are fair game for harassment by the Navy. Why? I honestly don’t get it. P.S. And don’t tell me it’s because I’m the problem. I was on this app for ten years watching nicely before I started getting mad.
John Ʌ Konrad V@johnkonrad

You treat an entire profession like garbage for decades. You go out of your way to call them civilians. You refuse to put defensive systems on their ships and send them into active combat defenseless. The young, motivated people all quit. Then you’re shocked when what’s left doesn’t meet your standards. So you yell at the survivors to make themselves “combat efficient” on zero training budget. You yell at the old people “you want to be taken seriously, get your asses in shape” No, Blake. The U.S. Merchant Marine isn’t “fat old boozy pirates.” We have young, fit professionals doing the most mentally demanding offshore work on the planet. They just refuse to work for the Navy. Because of exactly this attitude from Naval Officers like you. Let’s go Blake. Let’s go @FarvaPrice. Get out of that bubble and come with me to the US Merchant Marine Academy, let’s visit @MaritimeCollege, come up to Mass Maritime. Come see all the not fat, not old, not drunk, not lazy, high IQ midshipmen doing more physically demanding, more academically demanding work than USNA at the top of their game who refuse to work for the Navy because ya’ll give us zero respect. Or we can go visit the fit, young, groomed, motivated Federal Service Academy @UsmmaO midshipmen floating and under fire aboard five USMM ships in the Persian Gulf right now because your DDGs refuse to leave the safety of the Arabian gulf to go in and escort them out. Or I can introduce you to the mothers of those young midshipmen - merchant Mariners yes but also Navy Reserve brothers like you - who are on their knees praying everyday your Navy will do their legal obligations and go protect their sons and daughters. What Blake. What exactly do you think those young mids are going to tell their classmates when (or IF) they get back to campus? You think they are going to have nice things to say about the Navy that cut tail and ran out of the Persian Gulf without them?? F YOU F ALL YOU NAVY PRICKS

First time in my life that I had grits was in basic training and the Southern guys couldn't believe that I had no idea what it was. When I told them that it reminded me of cream of wheat, which my grandmother in NJ always made for breakfast, they had never heard of it.

🚨BREAKING: Just hours after Irish rappers Kneecap blasted the amps and turned a Havana concert into a rave for Code Pink activists chanting anti-blockade slogans, reports claim local hospital went dark and ventilator patients died. Meanwhile, members of the communist flotilla stayed in 5-star hotels with the lights blazing and AC running. No one cashes in on capitalism faster than the clowns preaching communism.

🚨 Near Death Experience shared on Joe Rogan had a lifelong atheist seeing his Dead Father "I sensed this black abyss like this infinite black void and I was getting pulled into it" He said as a lifelong atheist and rationalist Sebastian Junger's his Dead Father appeared saying "You don't have to fight it, you can come with me i'll take care of you, it's okay don't be scared" But he was horrified "Your'e dead, why would I want to go with you? I'm alive with my family right now" He begged the doctor "You gotta hurry, you're losing me right now" What would you do if this happened to you? Would you follow your loved one or fight to stay alive for your family? Have you or someone you know had a near death experience? Share your stories in the replies!

I never understood why Cesar Chavez has a street named after him in Ogden. The man had nothing whatsoever to do with Ogden, Weber County, or Utah. It was probably a virtue-signal from our “not-racist” city government to pander to Hispanics. Turns out he was a serial rapist. Now they have to virtue signal by taking it down. We’re governed over by the stupidest among us.

The good of Cesar Chavez cannot be reconciled with the abuse by Chavez against children & adults. Any public recognition should be urgently removed. As an office that prosecutes sex offenders & sits on the road named for him I find it offensive for our victims who may come here.
