Quick question, if you are parenting or have ever parented a 4 year old, quick question: Do they ever shut the fuck up????

B/c stuff like this gets old way faster for you than it does for them. I don't need another thing to take care of lol. I'd probably tell them they could keep it in their room vs completely getting rid of it, but you have to be willing to throw down hard boundaries & stick to them. Much easier to just remove it tbf.

@Madz_Grant When my older kids hit about 5, I'd set out their cups & a snack for when they got up & I'd tell them, "When mom gets up, it'll be time to start chores." They'd happily keep themselves occupied most of the morning w/o waking me 😅

I've noticed amongst friends who have little kids that they are basically forced into waking up when they do. When I was little I remember v clearly knowing that we shouldn't go and wake parents until at least 9am on a weekend, and generally entertaining ourselves in the morning

Physiological birth doesn't necessarily result in any of the above. Most birth injuries are caused by mismanagement, not the act itself. I've vaginally birthed 6 children & my vagina, continence, & pelvis are perfectly functional. Appropriate care reduces the risks significantly.

sorry to comment on the current dumb discourse, there is something many women do that leads to incontinence, genital and pelvic injury but it’s not butt stuff

@spetsnazhands @sheebadigeebies Jesus, I know the rarity is in how he acquired it. That’s my point. They never explained why that was rare. Are you trying to tell me that in all the time wizards have been a thing, nobody has ever jumped in front of a killing curse to protect a loved one? Lily was the first?

@PBanpoys @sheebadigeebies The rarity is in how he acquired it. He didn't fall off a bike. He survived the killing curse by one of the most powerful wizards of all time w/ only a small scar in a distinctive lightning bolt shape. That doesn't make any sense? Lol

@spetsnazhands @sheebadigeebies And no, I didn’t miss the significance of the scar. I’m saying they never explained the rarity of the scar. Everybody acted like it was some mysterious secret how he could have possibly survived. Once it was actually explained, that didn’t make any sense.

@PBanpoys @sheebadigeebies The defense is he was a young child & it was some seriously heavy shit w/ huge implications. I feel like any parent understands that motivation.

@spetsnazhands @sheebadigeebies Right, that’s what I mean. It was an after the fact rationalization once the author came up the idea of the protection magic. “When the time is right“ doesn’t make any sense as a defense of the decision not to tell him. The right time would be when it was affecting him.

It's multifaceted, a multitude of reasons, protective in more ways than one. I can accept your argument that their attempts to shield Harry from the truth were arguably misguided, but Dumbledore reveals much later on he fully intended to tell Harry when he was older & the time was right. You sound like book 5/6/7 Harry rn lol. It was Lily's magic, not Petunia's though. I'm not sure how you read all 7 books missed & the significance of the scar???

@spetsnazhands @sheebadigeebies I did. The original stated reason for not protecting him in another way was “he would be too famous if he grew up around wizards”. Doesn’t track with the later stated reason. There was no reason given for not telling him about Petunia’s magic, nor for the rarity of his scar type.

I took my tween son to Universal Studios over spring break. On rides that required you to lock up all personal items, the lines were full of ppl socializing. On rides that didn't, most ppl shuffled along like zombies while watching TikTik & scrolled Instagram. I'm pro-take all the phones away in social settings, esp schools.

There are a lot of people arguing that the evidence is too weak to go along with Jon Haidt in the movement to get smartphones away from kids. But what are the arguments that kids should have smartphones? Do they help them pay attention in school? What benefits do they bring over an analogue life? There's the argument that kids can't socialize without them these days. But if there's community buy-in, and all kids in one school can't use them during school, for example, how is that still a factor?

@spetsnazhands @sheebadigeebies The reason he wasn’t protected in other ways, and that nobody told him why he had to stay with them was “didn’t feel like it”, which is because the idea that living with Petunia gave him magical protection was a post hoc explanation anyway. The scar rarity was never explained.

@spetsnazhands @sheebadigeebies And just imagine how much better things would have been for Harry if somebody had explained that to him at some point. Also, there were plenty of other ways for him to be protected. Also, why was it such a mysterious thing, the scar? Had no one taken a bullet for someone before?

@iseult When I posted about Imane on FB during the Olympics, my profile got restricted for "hate speech" & the "fact check" on my post said, "Imane Khelif is not transgender. Imane Khelif is a woman." Thing is, I never suggested anywhere in my post that he was transgender.

@canering @jellyphishlvr @PMDEOSDX @JboiHQ I think it's a stretch to say it's an intentional allegory here when the lycanthropy tropes are common ones in fantasy, but ppl love to read their grievances/theories into fiction years after the fact

@spetsnazhands @jellyphishlvr @PMDEOSDX @JboiHQ Well at least in the earlier books. Or it could be homosexuality “people don’t want someone like me teaching their children” either way it makes the later stuff about the main evil werewolf targeting children have unfortunate implications
