On the other hand, it's less effective demand management when we're talking about running residential heat pump loads. Sure, thermostats can be changed a bit but the load can't be deferred entirely until there's less pressure on the grid.

In fact, the theory is that spot price buying is perfect for demand management, and this theory holds true with knowledgable customers who watch the price carefully and are quite flexible about energy use (eg, can delay charging their cars or other discretionary uses).

My take on the Griddy thing is that it's pretty neat that residential customers can access spot pricing, but allowing naïve people to use it for their primary electric is problematic. Suitable regulation might allow it but only for secondary garage electric meters or something.

@schmangee I would suspect a job situation that leaves two partners commuting in opposite directions with no good solution but maybe that’s just my own experience biasing me.

@JasonT I used to think clowns weren’t real but once when I was a teenager I was driving on Nichols Rd on Long Island & stopped at a traffic light and a hatchback with two clowns in full getup on board pulled up next to me. It was in fact a small car. The driver was smoking a cigarette.

@sandypsj That's still only enough generations to have people alive or recently dead who worked in them, I think ultimately it would still decline (also depends on how much cross migration into/out of the region). Or still have some level of nostalgia but really view it as history only, ..

@mjg59 @sweharris How do you handle delaying some of the signals so it doesn’t get mushy? Or is there enough audio attenuation between each room that it doesn’t matter? I’m most familiar with PA systems where it’s easy to tell how to delay but in a house the listener is moving around...

@sweharris No, but the acoustics are sufficiently different in different rooms that I don't think there's any way to really balance that here

Also, this is a single, 74 second exposure at 116mm, f20 and ISO 31. Shot on a D850 and 70-200 lens. 74 seconds was the absolute perfect exposure time, because at 75 seconds I would have been run over. If this was a game of chicken, I lost, and I'm ok with that.

Been meaning to hit up this spot for a while, and finally did today. Light trails from a car travel down one side of a hill and up the other in Knoxville this morning, with downtown #Pittsburgh rising above the houses in the distance. Always love the combo of houses and the city.
