Theism is the belief that God exists.
If atheism is, "simply the absence of theism", then it would mean that atheism is the belief that God does not exist, which is a positive truth claim about reality.
Perhaps you want to specify whether you are affirming weak or strong atheism?

@aquavitae96 No. Atheism is simply the absence of theism. A worldview requires a comprehensive set of positive beliefs about the universe, whereas atheism only denotes the lack of belief in one specific concept. Secular humanism, skepticism, or scientific naturalism are examples.

I actually agree that Atheism is distinct from Communism - it is just that b/c it does not provide any sort of framework that Atheists must adopt one. More recent history was Communism, but the French Revolution was closer to a (attempted) Republic.
