Did not expect a question that starts out 'Do you think before you speak?' to go so well. A+ question from Charlotte Harpur A++ response from Eileen Gu.

🇺🇸 Meanwhile in New York City “I’m gonna walk just this one block to show you how bad it’s gotten” “This is the most expensive area of New York, it’s spreading block to block, it’s going to need his own ZIP Code soon” Wow - NYC - is quickly turning into London and Paris.

You got to give lots of credit to Eileen Gu for responding brilliantly back to the reporter with great confidence. She looked him in the eye said that was a "ridiculous perspective" without any hesitation or fear. 😁

People are dying on NYC streets. Outreach only works if it’s actually done — not avoided, deflected, or rushed past. And this should not depend on a random passerby refusing to leave.

Parking a block away. Calling to say “no one’s there.” Looking for the caller before the person in need. Directing homeless frustration towards well-meaning civilians. Minimal effort. That’s not a staffing issue. That’s a training issue. And a systems issue.

This morning in Lower Manhattan I learned how “outreach” for people sleeping on the cold streets often works in NYC. And why more may die. 🧵#NYC #Homelessness
