14 year old me, calling the Nintendo Power hotline, before Google was really a thing: how do u catch mew in Pokémon? The grown woman working at the call center: Mew?? You cant catch Mew! You spent your parents money on this?! ($1.99, chill lady) me: 😢 28 years later:

@ErikCanady You're 100 percent correct, sir. Ollld. The OG Pokemon is nearly 30 years old. A lot of stuff taken for granted these days simply wasn't around. We relied on what the TV, magazines, schoolyard rumors and the "uncle that worked at nintendo" told us and had to make do!

@ss_slacker Thats assuming that kind of info could've even been found on the internet at that time. We just had to rely on TV commercials and what we saw advertised in stores. I didn't learn until well after they all shut down that there were call centers for help with games lol.

And yes, the story is real. I promise. I have no reason to lie, I'm not making a dime off this tweet. Believe it or not, sometimes the person you talk to at a call center can be a jerk. Maybe I caught her on a bad day. Thats the way it goes. 🤷‍♂️

@Radical_Ed Maybe its just the nostalgia talking - I feel like the 2006 internet was a little more chill than this. Maybe it was better compartmentalized and now its all in one place. It was better back then - straight up. 😎

@ss_slacker @ScreamTailWaifu The glitch wasnt found until years after the game came out....

@Johndl1987 Altavista didnt have the guide back in '98, otherwise I would have! By the time the glitch was known, I had already moved on and hadn't thought about it until I got the interest to play. A few of you think I made this up to get internet points - I promise I didnt. 🤷‍♂️

@ss_slacker All you have to do is follow the annoying guide that's online. Walk a hard path.

@Derek_Rumpler I should have considered the Game Genie, but I didnt like the concept at the time. I wanted to do it the right way.

@ss_slacker Little did she know you can if you engage in exploit shenanigans (or use something like Game Genie which is what I did). But I am not sure when the exploit was discovered.

@Daemonised I wasn't aware of Gamefaqs until after I moved on from Pokémon. Maybe it had it, I dunno!

@DragonFairyX1 I used the Mew glitch - the kid with the slowpoke past the nugget bridge and the gambler near Lavender Town.

@davidmill93 I saved my master ball for Mew Two. With this, I just used a great ball.

@Burrbradley1 Interesting! I saw an ad at Toys R Us to get a mew at black friday, which led me to believe that I could catch it.

@ss_slacker I got mew through a tournament pokemon had at the mall. It was like a consolation prize if you lost.
