Punchbowl with a pretty significant report this morning, that more or less puts Trump now on the hook for the TSA funding lapse.

🚨U.S. to allow Iran to get ~14 billion dollars (!!!) in oil revenue 🚨This is a huge financial concession to Iran by the U.S. 🚨It is the first time U.S. is buying Iranian oil since 1996 🚨It's all happening in the middle of a war against...Iran
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent@SecScottBessent

Iran is the head of the snake for global terrorism, and through President Trump’s Operation Epic Fury, we are winning this critical fight at an even faster pace than anticipated. In response to Iran’s terrorist attacks against global energy infrastructure, the Trump Administration will continue to deploy America’s economic and military might to maximize the flow of energy to the world, strengthen global supply, and seek to ensure market stability. Today, the Department of the Treasury is issuing a narrowly tailored, short-term authorization permitting the sale of Iranian oil currently stranded at sea. At present, sanctioned Iranian oil is being hoarded by China on the cheap. By temporarily unlocking this existing supply for the world, the United States will quickly bring approximately 140 million barrels of oil to global markets, expanding the amount of worldwide energy and helping to relieve the temporary pressures on supply caused by Iran. In essence, we will be using the Iranian barrels against Tehran to keep the price down as we continue Operation Epic Fury. This temporary, short-term authorization is strictly limited to oil that is already in transit and does not allow new purchases or production. Further, Iran will have difficulty accessing any revenue generated and the United States will continue to maintain maximum pressure on Iran and its ability to access the international financial system. So far, the Trump Administration has been working to bring around 440 million additional barrels of oil to the global market, undercutting Iran’s ability to leverage its disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump’s pro-energy agenda has driven U.S. oil and gas production to record levels, strengthening energy security and lowering fuel costs. Any short-term disruption now will ultimately translate into longer-term economic gains for Americans – because there is no prosperity without security.

Trump’s Iran policy gets even more muddled. He’s giving the Iranian regime he’s trying to overthrow a financial lifeline because his war is raising costs for Americans at the gas pump. He’s also signaling to the IRGC that if they keep attacking energy sites, he is vulnerable. 🤷‍♂️

BREAKING: US Treasury eases oil sanctions on Iran, including permiting the sale of Iranian crude and refined products into the United States. Scott Bessent calls it a "narrowly tailored, short-term authorization permitting the sale of Iranian oil currently stranded at sea."

Actually, the guy who was the point person for Iran at the White House and was fired by the Trump Administration after being Loomered wrote EXACTLY that warning 4 days before the war started. The article was titled “Why Iran Will Escalate.” But who needs experts… foreignaffairs.com/middle-east/wh…
Acyn@Acyn

Doocy: You said: they hit Qatar, Saudi Arabia UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait nobody expected that. We were shocked. Are you surprised that nobody briefed you ahead of time that that might be their retaliation? Trump: Nobody. Nobody. No no no no. The greatest experts—nobody thought they were going hit…

Brendan Carr’s authoritarian warning — that networks risk their broadcasting licenses for Iran war reporting that the government doesn’t like — is outrageous. When the government demands the press become a state mouthpiece under the threat of punishment, something has gone very wrong. In 2019, Carr said: “Should the government censor speech it doesn’t like? Of course not. The FCC does not have a roving mandate to police speech in the name of the ‘public interest.’” But today, Carr cites the “public interest” to blatantly threaten news outlets because the president doesn’t like their reporting. Again and again, Carr’s tenure as FCC chairman has been marked by his shameless willingness to bully and threaten our free press. But even by Carr’s standards, today’s hypocrisy is shocking — and dangerous. The American people demand uncensored news about the men and women serving in our armed forces. Our right to a free press is one of the core American freedoms those in uniform have sworn to support and defend. It is long past time for our government officials to remember their own oaths to uphold the Constitution — starting with the First Amendment.
Brendan Carr@BrendanCarrFCC

Broadcasters that are running hoaxes and news distortions - also known as the fake news - have a chance now to correct course before their license renewals come up. The law is clear. Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they do not. And frankly, changing course is in their own business interests since trust in legacy media has now fallen to an all time low of just 9% and are ratings disasters. The American people have subsidized broadcasters to the tune of billions of dollars by providing free access to the nation’s airwaves. It is very important to bring trust back into media, which has earned itself the label of fake news. When a political candidate is able to win a landslide election victory after in the face of hoaxes and distortions, there is something very wrong. It means the public has lost faith and confidence in the media. And we can’t allow that to happen. Time for change!

Talarico: "Here's why they're doing this. There's another war in the Middle East. There's a cost of living crisis crushing the middle class. There's a secret pedophile ring and no one has been prosecuted. So the people responsible are trying to distract us with the same old culture wars ... what do the American people care more about -- pronouns or prices?"

This Is Not a Rise in Antisemitism. It Is a Pandemic of Jew-Hatred. Calling what we are seeing a “rise in antisemitism” minimizes the reality: an ideological contagion that is spreading across movements, platforms, and demographics with alarming speed. My Latest Piece: bit.ly/4sCe9UM

Shocked by the State Department’s failure to support Americans abroad during this rapidly escalating conflict in the Middle East. The first responsibility of our diplomats is the protection of American citizens. We don’t abandon our own in times of crisis by instructing them, days into a war, to fly commercially with airspace closed and orders to evacuate a dozen countries. I’ve been evacuated twice by the U.S. government during periods of unrest, and been responsible for executing these efforts from Washington. We can and must do better. This response is shameful and will endanger Americans.
