We're still accepting submissions for the 'T cell responses to influenza' collection, which I'm guest editing with BMC Immunology. Please feel free to reach out if you're interested and would like to learn more.
Very sad to hear that UMass is rescinding all PhD admissions for Fall 2025. This means there will be no new PhD cohort, and UMass will not have a graduating class that year. This is just unprecedented and I am so very sorry for all the affected students.
Excited to announce a call for submissions for a special collection on T cell responses to influenza that I'm guest editing! If you're doing research in this area, I encourage you to submit your work. Feel free to reach out for information and see below. #BMCimmunology#Tcells
Researchers in Science #Immunology have identified CD8+ T cells from human donors that can recognize naturally occurring influenza variants spanning more than 100 years, including the 1918 influenza A and 2024 #H5N1. @Jamie_Rossjohn@kedzierskalabscim.ag/4hpSzh1
Our work on contrastive learning of T cell receptor representations is now out in Cell Systems!

I'm proud we can finally share our work describing the maturation of T follicular helper cell responses over time in human lymph node following Influenza vaccination.
Scientists found T-follicular helper cells determine the effectiveness of vaccine-induced flu immunity. Research suggests an improved method for developing flu vaccines that would increase efficiency and prevent helper cell-mediated suboptimal responses.

Two new papers report the specificity & differentiation dynamics of human LN TFH cells after flu or COVID vaccines. The flu paper is a collab. between my lab (@sschattgen ) & Ali Ellebedy, while the COVID was led by Ali, Philip Mudd, and @theHumanBorch-a 🧵nature.com/articles/s4159…
Special thanks to Jackson Turner, @M_A_Ghonim, Ali Ellebedy, and @PGTimmune for all their efforts in bringing this story to life. Check it out at Nature Immunology: nature.com/articles/s4159…
Using single-cell GEX and TCR sequencing, we identified Influenza-specific TFH lineages and observed their kinetics and transcriptional profiles as they engaged in the germinal center reaction.
MIS-C is a rare post-COVID syndrome impacting children, though a direct connection between SCoV-2 & severe inflammation is undefined
In our new collaborative effort w/UCSF & Boston Children's, we find a cross-reactive epitope could be the MIS-Cing link. A🧵nature.com/articles/s4158…
How can we balance the necessary function of the immune system in clearing virally-infected cells with keeping our lungs functioning and limiting collateral damage? A fantastic collaboration led by Sidd Balachandran offers a solution (1/5)

Our latest manuscript describes efforts to define endogenous T cell responses to the fusion driver characteristic of fibrolamellar carcinoma (FLC). Outcomes for FLC patients are poor, so new therapies are urgently needed. cell.com/cell-reports-m… 🧵(1/15)
