@shrydar @spirodonfl @jorandirkgreef @jarredsumner Are you blind to literally everything in the tech industry the past 20 years? YouTube, Twitter, VS Code Facebook, Spotify, Google, Uber, etc? Microsoft's "Embrace, Enhance, Extinguish"? Block chain, drones, VR, (and soon) AI? Everything VC money touches turns to shit.

If you want to see Zig done right, look at @jorandirkgreef and the TigetBeetle team. If you want to see corporate led destruction of an industry where people are manipulated into doing and holding positions for the end, regardless of means, have a look at Bun and @jarredsumner Andrew (zig) may have posted a blog post you don't agree with but the principles he touched on are true. Feel free to cope about it but the proof is abundant for anybody with 3+ brain cells who can look at companies that focus on the appropriate things. I'm 100% sure Rust has is like this too. I disagree with Rust at a principle and fundamental level but there are people who use it for good purposes (@LukasHozda @IroncladDev and others I'm not calling out) and I bet they put a lot of thought into how. It's too few and far between. Instead, it's the reckless and warped mindsets that are leading the tech industry as a whole.

@johnonmain grew up in the south and lived in the bay for 10 years and feel exactly that. i'd never go back to sweltering humid summers though, but man the monotony is insane

The lack of seasons in SF is actually evil. Months slide past and nothing changes— perhaps different trees bloom, some new flowers pop up in the park, and the sun sets earlier— but nothing really seems to change. It's fun at first... you can go for a jog outside every day without worry, you can wear the same types of outfits week after week (pants, with a nice shirt and light jacket). But as time goes by it's eerie. Your life just races bay, with no visual or physical punctuation. There's no leaves on the ground, no crisp fall days, no scorching summer nights where you can wear shorts and a t shirt until midnight, no thunderstorms. It's spring. It's purgatory. Forever and ever.

@HSVSphere Andrew Kelley is right and everyone is just mad because they're all corporate slopshit Silicon Valley sellouts who would suck Peter Thiel's dick for a Series A funding

Kelley actually called Sumner a sellout if you read between the lines. Honestly, the whole Bun porting article did sound like a promotional piece for Claude.

Andrew Kelley’s blog post was fine actually. God forbid someone holds opinions and has a personality that’s not filtered through 10 layers of corporate code of conduct censorship. I wish more people in tech wrote like this from time to time

@theo only criticism of the blog post was when he backtracked. He was right about Jarred being a corporate AI slopshit sellout and he should have said it with his whole chest

@theo Andrew is not evil, he just cares about software and can't be bought out like Jarred. Jarred was literally in the Thiel Fellowship created by an actual Nazi LMAO, you don't get more evil than that. Everyone is just mad because they have 0 principles

"Andrew shouldn't have been so personal!" WRONG Jarred was a part of the Peter Thiel Fellowship. He's following the fucking SV Tech Playbook to a T. Bun is slop. Jarred has allied himself with the venture capitalist freaks and should be shamed for doing so

Andrew Kelley is right, Jarred is a corporate Silicon Valley slopshit sellout, the only criticism I have of the blog post is where he backtracked at the end. All the SV tech bros are hurt because they'd sell out just as fast as Jarred and they're taking it personal

@michael_timbs The only real criticism that I have of his post is the end where he kinda back tracked a little bit. I think Andrew is completely right and that Jarred and Bun are corporate Silicon Valley slopshit sellouts and Andrew should just confidently say that with his whole chest

@ludwigABAP True and real and low key Andrew was right. Jarred is a sellout who only cares about the toxic bullshit Silicon Valley Software Playbook and Andrew called him on his shit for being bad and now every insecure San Francisco Tech Bro felt personally attacked

@dreamsofcode_io Big tech companies have spent decades perfecting the formula of "get users addicted with subsidized product of decent quality, and then jack up prices once users are so hooked they can't leave". This time it's just being turned inwards on the developer who makes these products

we are so goddamn lucky to have our eyes witness something like that. a guy with a nice camera, the foresight, and the modern internet to carry that vision as it was seen right into our laps. more than 100 billion people lived and died without seeing that once, ever

not a dumb question, imho: - they avoided Google Culture where everyone is a middle manager - their tech industry seems to favor high agency - their government is good at communicating long-term goals and strategy that don't change drastically every 2-4 years - IP law and lawsuit culture doesn't get in the way of every single thing they do - a really solid education system, especially for the upper crust - a national narrative that a fairly large chunk of people genuinely believe in, which is something that comes from your country lifting millions and millions of people out of starving-to-death poverty and continuing to make strides in improving the country on a yearly basis

a TRILLION parameter model by a FOOD DELIVERY startup btw. maybe a dumb question, but how do these seemingly random Chinese companies have the resources/talent to make their own models?
