@King_0f_Sinners absolutely. I hate how widespread the Sekiro parry has become for example, it's definitely ruined other games for me. But it works in Sekiro! The problem is just lazy imitation

It's the same thing as "Fromsoft ruined action games" Fromsoft didn't do shit they didn't tell people to start copying them it's other studios who cheaply tried to copy the formula and mass market it who "ruined" the genre

@Authw8 as goofy as it is from a lore perspective I found ME2 gameplay about 100 times more fun than the first game so I'm not gonna argue with it

mass effect 1: in the future guns can make their own ammo so the limiting factor is they overheat sometimes and need to cool down mass effect 2: we have developed a new technology to store heat in "clips" that you can "reload" by pressing R

Frieren boldly asks the question "what if 90% of FMA:B episodes were about the Elric brothers hitting up random villages doing odd jobs for lunch money?"
peepeepoopoo@DeepDishEnjoyer

i think i just realized that frieren is rated as highly as it is because the modern anime watching audience has a shot attention span and has actually intellectually regressed over the past two decades. oh my god

@blessedtism @JoshEdits At one point, consoles were significantly cheaper, easier to set up, and had meaningful exclusives you couldn't get on PC. As time has gone on we are seeing the erosion of all of those, plus PC games have better sales and you don't have to pay for multiplayer

@JoshEdits It's a valid question though. What is the incentive of gaming on a shitty platform with proprietary hardware and a corporate gatekeeper? Why have multiple platforms like that?

@JoshEdits No. PC ports hurt gaming.. What’s the point of having all these platforms if there isn’t any incentive to buy said platform ? Why have multiple platforms ? Might as well have a monopoly platform & give them all the power with the way your talking

@JamesSurowiecki The electoral college makes sense in a world where people view themselves as citizens of a state more than citizens of the country. I think that made complete sense in the 1700s. Less so now

There's no good civic argument for the electoral college. It was arguably necessary to ensure the ratification of the Constitution, but it's an anti-democratic device that gives some American citizens far more voting power than others, based purely on where they live.

@dev_maims If it lists ANY number of years required other than zero, then it should be banned from being labeled as entry-level. It's just dishonest at that point

@vAh4nvRTiE91181 @InPlasticWrap In America, we say "Won't anyone think of the poor helpless giant corporation?" 🥺🥺🥺 The one that is powerful, worth billions, and would run over your grandma for a quick buck. American corporations are ruthless until proven otherwise.

@ProfBZZZ Not everyone learns well through large amounts of reading. I never did get much out of most of the readings in most classes, there was always an attempt but usually the actual learning happened in class or for the assignments.

A student today at my elite university admitted to me today that she took a class so she could work on reading for more than 20 minutes at a time. She can't read. She mainly skims and summarizes, she says and still gets A's. This student is, by professional standards, illiterate. Gonna have high GPA when she graduates. This conversation was had after 6 of 22 students dropped my course because the maximum reading per week in one week was over 100 pages. What people aren't grasping is that this is literally *dangerous*. These people are going to be come doctors, engineers, etc. They are - by any metric - vastly less capable than prior generations. These effects are cumulative over a lifetime. This grade inflation is part of the problem, but not even close to the entirety. And the problem obviously starts in K-12. Students don't know history because, you can't actually become historically literate on the advice of 'never assign more than 30 pages a week'. You can't develop any of the skills that came with literacy. This is, quite honestly, a civilizational catastrophe.

79% of grades at Yale are A-range. Graduating summa cum laude requires a record high GPA OF 3.98.

@PaulTassi You gotta go with a laser printer. It'll be a bit more expensive up front but way cheaper in the long run because you don't have to buy new ink every six months to print one single page.

@KakarottaLeah might be top 1 biggest disappointments for me. I am so incredibly bored of orchestral soundtracks being in absolutely every genre. Movies already do it, don't make every game do this too. I want to see more electronic stuff, more rock, funk, jazz, etc.

@analytichegel there's essential *knowledge*, but "you have to get it from this specific book" always seemed incredibly shortsighted to me. For fiction, it's even less coherent because fiction isn't about knowledge, it's about personal taste and the experience.

I hate the idea of “essential reading.” What is essential for one person will not be essential for another. It is my experience that I get more out of things I read out of interest compared to things I read out of obligation.

@PandaKingEX I've never liked or enjoyed it but I didn't have to care until games like Sekiro and Wo Long completely centralized their combat around it and stripped out like half of what made games like that interesting. I'll celebrate its death at this point
