@statcenter

Everything NBA. A lot of Hornets. Stats, insights, jokes, heaps of quote-retweets. Theoretically switchable.

@statcenter Am I losing my mind or is there not an appeal system in place?? I really thought players with legitimate injuries who could prove they missed the mark bc of those injuries could appeal

Not allowing voters to apply common sense and judgment is the ultimate legacy of the 65-game rule. Of course games played matters. It never stopped mattering, at least for reasonable voters. Now we've arbitrarily decided "66 great, 62 bad".
Molly Morrison@mollyhannahm

i have not spoken on the 65 game rule because i’m ultimately not super passionate about it, but this cade situation is the first thing that’s really pushed me over the edge. he’s had an all-NBA season and absolutely shouldn’t be penalized for a collapsed lung with 14 games left.

@jrichardgoodman feel like that’s a microcosm of society at large. like outside of avid fans and fans who have a team in their city, most people are out on the NBA with the exception of Christmas and the playoffs — and that still relies on name recognition a lot of times.

Most fans act as if the 80s was all Magic + Bird + Isiah playing each other every night, when it was also a whole lot of Mark Olberding and Jeff Lamp and Bob Wilkerson. There have always been mediocre players in the NBA (and every sport, for that matter). And that's ok!
Cerrone Battle@Cerrone_Battle

This is why expansion is a freaking terrible idea. 8 teams won't reach 25 wins and even some good teams have G- league talent in their rotation. League should do the opposite and drop down to 24 teams like the 80's. Deeper rosters, competitive hoop = better product.

@jasonlevin18 I don't agree with that last part. The Pelicans live at the rim (43% of FGA), while the Celtics take half that. Highest-pace teams play ~ 10% faster than the slowest teams, which is the same as in the 80's. The biggest diff is teams have cut out the really inefficient stuff.

@statcenter For the record Bobby Wilkerson was locking dudes up for years. Mark Olberding was as tough as they come inside. Lamp was…. Mediocre. The biggest difference is that everyone then had their own game/style/strengths. Now they all play pretty much the same. It’s sad.

Are they actually playing more, though? Every MVP since at least 2006 played at least 80% of their games. Voters already cared, and players knew voters cared. What's changed is we put an arbitrary number on it.
The Shipper@ShipTheJustice

@statcenter that is not the point div b the point is that it gets the stars to play. which is good. they didnt play before and now they do

Do you think your jersey is retired if you aren’t a part of Charlotte as much post playing career? Dell Curry: “No. Absolutely not” I got to sit down w/ @hornets royalty ahead of his jersey retirement. It’s the most rewarding interview of my career. 🎧: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/wes…

Cedric Coward with a golden answer on Taj Gibson. "He's not old, but older...for this team he's older." A player we'll keep anonymous in the background: "Taj is old as f**k." 🤣🤣 But reminded the young guys he's in tune by hitting someone with a "pause" 😭😭 Full ⬇️
