If Auckland were to build a Sydney Metro-style line, what could it look like? Running directly City <-> Airport would hit: - the major universities & hospitals - many high schools - redevelopable areas - under-served communities and so likely be a very successful service!

Did you know this: when you use renewable electricity to make hydrogen, you can't use it for things that abate 2x to 9x more emissions, namely getting coal off the grid, powering heat pumps and charging EVs. Call me old-fashioned, but I think this should have policy implications.

The primary energy fallacy is the idea that all primary energy from fossil fuels must be replaced with an equivalent amount of clean energy. BUT: This is not necessary because conversion losses do not need to be replaced. More than 2/3 of all primary energy is lost as waste heat. I first heard @MLiebreich use this term which captures this phenomenon nicely I think.
