As a Protestant Christian I will absolutely concede that departed saints could be praying for us in heaven but as a Protestant who reads her Bible I will never concede that we are to pray TO them. Not one apostle or Jesus ever told us to pray to anyone but God and my Bible says Jesus LIVES to intercede for us. God is more than enough in heaven. Now when they come at you with the “ok then don’t ask anyone to pray for you” just know that’s a stupid strawman. We are talking about who we PRAY TO. We ask people who can hear us and see us and are alive ON EARTH to pray for us TO GOD, we don’t PRAY TO people who have passed away on earth.. So zip it with all that. 🙃

Prior to the Council of Trent in 1545 there was no such thing as an agreed upon “Roman Catholic Bible.” Cardinal Ximenez (who died in 1517 - the very year Martin Luther nailed his 95 Thesis to the Castle Church door in Wittenberg) in the preface to his Complutensian Polyglot Bible described the 7 books of the Deutercanon as “books outside the canon.” He explains that their purpose is to be “received by the Church rather for the edification of the people than for the authoritative confirmation of ecclesiasitcal doctrines.” In essence, Ximenes’s position was: valuable and edifying for Christians, but outside the primary canon and insufficient by themselves to establish doctrine.

They need parents who love them enough to say no, teach gratitude, model integrity and show them how to do hard things. Staying on the Baby Steps isn’t depriving your kids. You are teaching them that wisdom matters more than appearances and that money is a tool, not a measure of their worth. You aren’t failing your kids because you can’t give them everything. You are teaching them how to live like no one else so someday they can live and give like no one else.
