@theEquilibrium Waiting IS the trade. It’s conscious inaction that protects your future opportunities, and that is a trade, just one made in time, not price. A zero-cost position that earns invisible dividends: control and clarity. Stillness is strength, calm is execution.

Qullamaggie: "...if you’re a swing trader there’s nothing here to do, you may as well take the day off, go study, do something productive, the most important thing is to preserve mental capital, stay positive stay healthy, let most market participants wear themselves out, then when it’s time you can come back and be aggressive, you’re gonna be in a position of strength. That’s how you win the game of trading; you have to do some things differently." Qullamaggie: "The setups are timeless absolutely, but you’ve gotta identify when the setups are working and not working, that’s the hardest part, learning the setups is the easy part, you just have to put in some effort and you can very easily identify a 5-star setup from a 3-star setup. A beginner doesn’t see the difference but you put in a bit of effort and you will see the difference. But identifying periods and actually not trading during unfavourable periods that’s the hardest thing; that’s my biggest weakness overtrading; it’s very natural to start looking for trades when there’s not many good setups, especially coming off a period when there’s been good setups non-stop, it’s a little bit hard to me to adapt sometimes, I keep pushing even when I shouldn’t, my returns would be much bigger if I didn’t do that." Just because a setup appears doesn’t mean it’s the right time to trade. Market conditions can drastically change how a setup plays out - whether a breakout will likely fail or not and the follow-through afterwards. For instance, during high-volatility periods, even the best-looking setups can fail. Humans are wired to 'do something', especially in professions like trading where rewards (profits) are directly linked to actions (trading). This can lead to the urge to trade despite unfavorable odds. After a successful streak, a trader might feel invincible and might be tempted to keep pushing after the easy money is gone. Conversely, after a losing streak, they might attempt to 'make up' for losses by trading more, often leading to further losses. The dreaded death spiral drawdown. Trading is hard - probably one of the hardest things you'll ever try to be successful at. Even someone as successful as KK has to deal with the temptations and emotions of trading, even when the odds aren't really there. He has obviously mastered this aspect, but 99% of the rest of us still have work to do.

Like most high-performance endeavors in life, the final result is only partly dependent on knowledge, skill, and talent. The very best work very hard, and, especially in prolonged competitions like investing, the grind and persistence required is what ultimately determines who wins. In addition, success in such a difficult field requires failing over and over and bouncing back. The greats all did it - @RayDalio had to restart when he was already well into his career while having the added embarrassment of letting go of all his employees. But, most never try after they first fail, and many who fail after a few years of success let pride and ego keep them from giving it another go. It is difficult to encapsulate the journey, but @davidgoggins did a great job in his book "Can't Hurt Me." His challenges today are mostly physical, but he is always quick to point out how his mind has been the weapon that has allowed him to triumph over countless adversity. I have always done my greatest trading when my mind was right. When I was confident, focused, determined, and prideless, I could adapt to everything the market threw my way. When I became greedy or fearful, my equity curve would head south, and it was righting my mind, not my investing approach, that always got me back up. I've found that apart from returns, simple longevity is an accomplishment in this business, and relentlessly working on my mindset has been critical to sticking around. So, after spending a beautiful summer focusing on my mindset, I decided to bring a little more persistence to my writing as it always helps me maintain focus. Each morning I'll be tweeting either what I'm thinking about, a stock chart I'm watching, a recap of important news, or a story that encourages me. Success isn't just a chart pattern or fundamental stat, it's the daily grind. I'll do my best to share my grind and bring it here. Good luck in those markets

This will be interesting. the logic of AVWAP always struck me as suspect.
Leo@l_smigel

Just finished backtesting #avwap across the s&p500 constituents and there’s nothing special about it… I’ll likely create a YouTube video discussing the testing and AVWAP alternatives if I get enough interest.

@alphatrends Isn't that the AVWAP sometimes coincides with some key moving average, and that's why it seems to work so well?

@RichardMoglen Hi Richard, I would be interested to know how he adapts his pyramid technique during bear markets, periods when you also might want to take profit quickly instead of building heavy positions in leaders, thanks!

@Ollie_AllCaps The unfilled gap above the 50 SMA and above the descending resistance with high volume represent for me a buy signal and a low risk entry. At 60.2 I find it somewhat difficult to manage risk. But happy to see that the trade is working anyway!

@stefcrive Easy to say now. My strategy requires above average volume and a pivot. 5 sessions ago there was neither.
