A new report has revealed that despite making well over $1bn of revenue in Australia, Netflix shifts most its earnings off-shore and manages to avoid a huge tax bill in the process. bit.ly/4vno426

Some of Australia's largest mining companies receive hundreds of millions in diesel fuel tax credits - BHP alone received $622 million last financial year. At a time when the budget is under pressure and Australians are feeling huge cost of living pressures, these subsidies need to end. We should be capping fuel tax credits to look after farmers and small miners but make the biggest miners pay the full price for diesel like everyone else. theguardian.com/world/2026/may…

Choosing Budget day, when almost all federal political journalists are literally locked in rooms without their phones or internet access, to release key reports into gambling & aged care wait times is not the level of transparency our community expects and deserves from government. This is an age-old political tactic to “take out the trash” - releasing disappointing information under the cover of bigger news when people are distracted - needs to be called out. canberratimes.com.au/story/9246815/…

The removal of the rebate for private health insurance for people over 65, is grossly unfair. The rebate should have been means tested. Many seniors are low income or on pensions. Their health insurance is often their biggest expense which they struggle to keep. Unfair.

Does anybody really believe these changes to negative gearing are ‘social policy’? It’s about saving govt money. Change is needed but don’t put lipstick on the pig.

Scott Pendlebury will donate a decent portion of the profits made from his record-breaking game to My Room, a charity for children's cancer. It's a personal contribution which he committed to some time ago. Pendlebury's an ambassador and has a long-standing connection with Doug Rathbone, who is the president of the charity. @7AFL @1116sen

"Ordinarily, 65 per cent of the profits would go to the player... Collingwood's waived that. Scott Pendlebury is making all the money." Scott Pendlebury will get 100 per cent of profits made on merchandise for his record-breaking game, per Tom Morris.

Breaching BetStop rules more than 500 times and not facing a single dollar in fines shows how completely ineffective ACMA is as a gambling regulator and how hopeless our regulatory framework is. Right now the consequences for gambling companies are minimal while the harm to people is real. smh.com.au/business/compa… Allegations that someone was effectively told they had to place a bet to withdraw their own money, instead of being told they could use BetStop and get a refund are, if true, completely unacceptable. We know the response to the landmark multi-partisan Murphy review the govt will table tomorrow is completely inadequate and fails to address the key sources of gambling advertising harm.

If any AFL players were concussed last night & had issues down the track, they’d likely be eligible for an insurance claim via Zurich. But from today this avenue is now closed. The TPD cover for head trauma and mental health as a result of head trauma is now not an option for 500+ footballers. Also from today, there’s a 62% reduction in TPD cover and a 600% increase in TPD premiums. @7AFL @1116sen
Tom Morris@tommorris32

A bombshell for hundreds of AFL players... From May 1, Zurich will no longer cover head trauma. Not once cent. "They cannot continue to support this high level of claims," leaked email. Details👇 sen.com.au/news/2026/03/2… @1116sen @AFLNation

Australia has a significant opportunity in our gas exports. Other countries have used resource revenues to build sovereign wealth funds that deliver long-term public benefit. A fair return on gas exports could help build a fund that invests in Australia’s future. sbs.com.au/news/article/a… Join the campaign: ourgas.com.au

Per capita, federal investment in CSIRO is less than 1/2 what it was in the 1980s. Successive governments have starved our national science agency and we're now paying a price. Today the Senate inquiry I set up with the Coalition and the Greens tabled a Report. My additional comments call for what CSIRO actually needs: a permanent, ongoing lift in base funding - an investment in our future. canberratimes.com.au/story/9234897/…
