Explore 100s of options for European carbon neutrality & energy self-sufficiency in our recent paper led by @bryn_pickering - see his nice thread, and the TU Delft news story: tudelft.nl/en/2022/tu-del…. Want to do work like this? We are hiring a PhD student: tudelft.nl/over-tu-delft/…
Bryn Pickering@bryn_pickering

As promised, I'm back with more details! Check out our new @Joule_CP paper and accompanying interactive web tool to explore the diversity of options to reach climate neutrality in an energy self-sufficient Europe. 1/9 📖 doi.org/10.1016/j.joul… 🔍 explore.callio.pe

Thread and new research on whether Europe would be better off building renewables locally everywhere, or only in the best locations and then providing more interconnection capacity. TLDR: could do it either way, costs not vastly different, think about resilience.

Continental or local? 100% renewable electricity supply in Europe can be both. But cost and especially required infrastructure differ. Read our new @Joule_CP study: doi.org/10.1016/j.joul…. With @JLilliestam @stemarelli @stefpf @IASS_Potsdam @ETH. HIGHLIGHTS BELOW👇

OK comparison of travel option emisisons, but misses the key point: flying accelerates emissions by its very high emission intensity/time. U could never do 4 intercontinental car trips a year. "Flying is the fastest way to cook your children" @BBCNews bbc.com/news/science-e…

Excellent @TheAtlantic article on the exposés we've been publishing about Bolsonaro's Minister of Justice, the corrupted investigation he led that resulted in Lula's removal from the election, and the fallout in Brazil from our reporting, by @Vinncent: theatlantic.com/international/…

Climate change is the defining challenge of our generation. If you work with scientific Python (or programming more generally), this looks like a great opportunity to contribute to solving it (with @stefpf): jobs.ethz.ch/job/view/JOPG_…
