@Cbvheartland2 I didn't check, but we were supposed to get down to 39 in Arpelar.

@JonahDispatch Instead of eliminating teachers unions, let parents send their children to any school in the state, and force school districts to compete for attendance number.
English

So many of our problems could be fixed by eliminating teachers unions.

So many of our problems could be fixed by properly funding public education.

@Cbvheartland2 You can't vote your way out, but you can educate your way out.

So you think California can vote their way out of this?
Voting is a complete joke in California!
Scott Jennings@ScottJenningsKY
You might think California dodged a bullet afer Eric Swalwell was forced to exit the governor's race in disgrace. However, the leading Democrat is now a fringe Looney Tunes billionaire whose platform is nothing short of horrifying. Vote wisely, California.

@natmiletic These days slowness comes from getting slammed by bots and cheap hosting.
English

If your WordPress site feels slow and painful to maintain, fix these before anything else:
1. Switch to a good caching plugin like WPRocket
2. Compress every image
3. Convert images to WebP or AVIF
4. Remove unused tracking scripts (like Facebook Pixel or others)
Most "slow site" problems are just unoptimized images and external scripts.

@Okla_Hombre Hmm... when you spend more money on homelessness, there are suddenly more homeless people?

@brockpierson I remember ICQ, except I spent all time working, not chatting.

Quite possibly an unpopular opinion, but if Elementor becomes the recommended way to build themes for wp.org WordPress is going to 80%, even if Claude rewrites it in Rust. And if a solid WooCommerce checkout is built around it, well, it’s 2012 all over again.

@TheGoldenDays HDOS, it was the native operating system on the Heathkit H11 which came out in 1979. My step-dad built one and I can still remember playing "Lunar Lander" and "Star Trek" on it.

@MinerBob00 @LangmanVince @BrianKirkland5 We all saw the retardation. But when the other choice is John Kerry or Al Gore...
English

@LangmanVince @BrianKirkland5 How did everyone not see the retardation in his face? This man was never president. His terms were his dad's 2nd and 3rd terms. It's where Obama got the idea for Joe Biden and his 3rd term.

@brockpierson I had one! They had the most realistic samples in a PC sound card, even to this day.

@glenngabe Facebook is the biggest back button hijacker. Click a link from Google Search to Facebook, and you'll be unable to go back.
English

Sites have two months to stop it. -> Whoa, huge news and it's something I wrote about last year on my blog. If you hijack the back button, you are going to get a manual action. This is great news for users... Enough with hijacking the back button and providing a Google-like feed of articles that tricks people into staying. This will make the web better. I'm really glad Google is rolling this out.
From Google: "Starting in about two months, June 15, 2026, Google will begin enforcement of this action. “We believe that the user experience comes first. Back button hijacking interferes with the browser’s functionality, breaks the expected user journey, and results in user frustration. People report feeling manipulated and eventually less willing to visit unfamiliar sites,” Google added.

@natmiletic It's because someone did not provide enough specifics on how they want the website to look.
English

@glenngabe @rustybrick Wikipedia has turned antisemitic for quite some time.
English

OK, @rustybrick's Wikipedia page was just deleted. If you read the conversation between Wikipedia contributors, you will be shaking your head the entire time. Hard to believe Barry doesn't meet the threshold for a Wikipedia page...
Net-net, if someone writes a book about the history of SEO, it sounds like Barry, and then several others, will probably get Wikipedia pages quickly... This just seems stupid IMO. :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia…

@KatieKeithBarn2 It's just another CMS in a long list of WordPress killers, but people are jumping on the bandwagon because its Cloudflare.

This is the best overview of EmDash I’ve seen, with a good round-up of opinions from both sides.
To me, it feels like hype within a fairly small bubble. I’ll pay more attention when it starts getting real adoption.

Cloudflare has launched EmDash, a new CMS it's calling the "spiritual successor to WordPress," drawing swift pushback from co-founder Matt Mullenweg and much of the community. therepository.email/cloudflare-lau…

@andrewhoyer We've won business on cold calls, but it takes practice to learn which businesses are more likely to bite than others. We still rely more heavily on local branding and letting the work come to us.
