It’s genuinely hilarious that we’re having the same “Jaylen Brown overpaid” conversation again😭if history repeats itself this contract is gonna be quite the bargain

Every season Cleveland keeps Donovan Mitchell on the roster further depreciates the 30+% of the cap they allocated to Evan Mobley. 1 of the most glaring examples of incongruence between a team’s two best players in the league, CLE MUST make a decision between them this offseason
David Lee@dlee4three

Donovan Mitchell passed on just 53.8% of his 1,155 postseason touches, the 3rd lowest passing ratio among high-volume playoff drivers since 2014. The biggest reason why CLE's +1.5 ORTG w/ Harden & Mitchell ROSE to +3.8 in Harden's solo minutes & FELL to -2.7 w/ just Donovan.

Why a Mobley-for-Jaylen trade makes WAY too much sense for Boston: Mobley is one of the most scalable archetypes in basketball, the Darko curve is already on par with Jaylen and he’s only 24 years old, and the trajectory is heading upwards. And the reason it scales so well is because his value comes from things that amplify OTHER stars instead of competing with them for touches. Boston already averaged 1.33 PPP with Tatum/Kornet PnR actions. Now imagine Tatum with: • an elite roaming defender • a vertical spacer • a connective short roll passer • a switchable small ball 5 • and a guy who can actually punish rotations That’s absurd. Mobley’s playoff offensive growth is exactly why the fit works: • +30 playoff ASTEFG on Brown • 1.73 ppp as the roll man in 2025 (96th percentile) • +0.7 rim AST on Brown • better turnover suppression • higher post-season 3PR/FTR • 1.20 ppp as a spot-up (81st percentile) • +7.5 finishing TSA The short roll passing part is the biggest thing people underrate. He keeps offensive advantages alive instead of killing them. Tatum would get cleaner reads, cleaner spacing, more vertical pressure, and easier counters against playoff traps/blitzes. Defensively it’s basically the ideal modern playoff big: • +2.4 D-DPM • +3.8 DRAPM • playoff rim frequency drops -10% with him on • opponents shoot -5.3% worse at the rim • elite roaming/help instincts • switchability • recovery speed • weakside rim protection That’s why he works both as: • the perfect small ball 5 for elite offense • the perfect double-big partner with Queta Queta can stay near the rim while Mobley handles perimeter mobility, recoveries, and roaming responsibilities. Offensively both give vertical pressure while Mobley acts as the connector. And financially it lines up perfectly under the luxury tax too: Mobley is 30-32% of the cap through age 28 while Brown is 35% through age 32. A Tatum/Mobley core is just easier to sustain and complement because you only need: • movement shooting • connective guards • POA defenders • cheap spacing wings instead of trying to survive long term with multiple max scoring wings needing on-ball reps that just doesn’t fully work.

Mobley-for-Giannis rumors are a given. If Giannis winds up somewhere other than Boston, I wonder if Mobley-for-Jaylen Brown rumors become a thing. I wouldn't do it as Cleveland, but it does solve their wing issue while keeping one of the bigs in place.

@OnileOre They’ve always been fine with him off besides this year. They’re usually either positive or within a point or two of neutrality. This roster simply isn’t good enough

I do think Tatum needs to be consistently better in the playoffs but I also do think you have to improve the roster so they are a lot better when he is off the court and give yourself a better margin for error I think 2 things can be true

@celticsfolife The best player on your list in that same span… Same efficiency as Jaylen on higher volume while being a worse defender

Dont @ me about brown he’s not elite Its good that he is able to take a large offensive load and be a good creator, but his efficiency is still pretty bad for his offensive situation, not to menton his defense is regular asf

@EmbiidAmputee That’s a ton of data 😭50 games worth of playoff data is a huge sample and much less variance is in playoff data as opposed to rs data which is why you typically need a ton of Rs data

The same defensive concepts that have worked all regular season, all playoffs, and now in this series are still working. The hard doubles that OKC shredded in the RS, playoffs, & vs SAS are still getting shredded. Here's some of that deterring help. Lots o contested jumpers.
Cranjis McBasketball@Tim_NBA

Deterring help >>> doubles vs OKC LA didn’t see the light until way too late (& would’ve lost anyway). San Antonio is seeing it in time.

Okc has another gear to get to in terms of reducing the spurs paint touches. They can be way more aggressive
