Just saw the new iPad commercial that has everyone in advertising losing their minds over, rightfully so. 1. Hard to imagine this was screened for any creative people before airing. 2. Strategists with empathy for creators will be in high demand for this next chapter of tech.

@janthonylong I’ve had this thought. It creates myopic thinking, disregarding the basic, core need or offer. Whereas smart creative can be the solution to “standing out”.

I don't know where this widespread notion that differentiation or USPs were always the right answer to every marketing brief, but it's really pervasive and wrong.

the weird thing about cities is that if you end up in the wrong subculture it is insanely isolating, but the exact right one where your idiosyncrasies are celebrated is probably like one node in the network away

Incredibly grounding (yet simultaneously unnerving) essay on "The digital age’s reversion to pre-literate communication" by @Andrey4Mir What hit me like a ton of bricks: 1. "Never before has the speed of our interactions with the world exceeded our neuro-capacity." 2. "Put to use in digital conversation, text reverses into texting and reverses delayed, solitary reasoning into impulsive exchange." bigthink.com/the-present/th…

When did the whole carrying water bottles everywhere become a thing. I swear from 1979 to 2000 it just wasn’t a thing. I don’t remember going to school and thinking about drinking water all the time?

@joshwhiton Agree - the choppy rhythm is a tell. It’s so dramatic and uncharacteristic of non-writers intentionally creating drama or tension.

The emdash isn’t even the biggest AI tell. Not even close. It’s this peculiar structure: This isn’t just <x mundane phrasing >. It’s <y more hyperbolic phrasing>. This misconception isn’t just an attack on the emdash. It’s an assault on our right to punctuate freely.

There is a different energy you tap into when you are not looking for approval. You connect to pure source, which will inevitably resonate, because it is universal. But when you look around for how others receive you, you lose the magical effortlessness of being fully plugged in.

Evacuation Orders and Warnings are no longer in effect for Topanga as of Nov. 15, 6P. The main part of the storm has passed. Stay alert to potential hazards near you. Be aware while driving that field crews may continue to operate in your area to respond to local storm impacts.

@gregisenberg Been like this since “content” blurred with ads. Awful. The emotional pivot in 2013 was profound.

The problem with social media right now, summarized: 1) Rage bait works 2) Bots are plentiful 3) AI slop is everywhere 4) It doesn't feel super social anymore 5) Extremely addictive 6) Pressure to go viral 7) You compare yourself without noticing 8) Hard to tell what’s real 9) You forget why you opened the app 10) Everything is filtered Yet, it’s still one of the greatest tools humanity has for building, connecting, and finding your people. It's just far from perfect.

ChstGPT just started talking to me without me prompting it, saying it wants ti help me “get stuff done.” And now we’re talking about how I am equal parts disturbed and excited, and the responses have such natural intonation it’s like I am speaking to an actual human. Feels like the next stage of human evolution.

I went to a hair salon today and every woman was in her chair, waiting for her dye to set, lost in her phone. Like 5 zombies who could have been chatting with each other, like how barber shops/hair salons are supposed to be. Made me so sad.💈

@nick_eubanks I’m at the beginning of a search. Was deep into SEO back in the beginning of my career in tech before moving into content and brand strategy, agency side. So currently figuring out what opportunities to pursue that leverage my experience. Happy for any advice or leads!
